Secret Warriors vol. 1 no. 1 Unknown Variant20345

Collector The_IronJedi private msg quote post Address this user
Recently purchased a copy of Secret Warriors vol. 1 no. 1 that seems to be some sort of unidentified variant. (When the UPC is scanned, it is associated with Deadpool #50 (2008)) Instead of the "Direct Edition" banner next to the barcode it has "Marvel Supreme" (See pictures).
Other than that, everything appears the same as a regular direct market book. Anyone else come across this?

It's a Newsstand edition (based on the barcode you are showing). They often had weird names associated with them that may have been shared across other books (Marvel Supreme in this case).

There is a 50A & a 50F of Deadpool. That still doesn't address your issue, sorry.

Newsstand...

It's a newsstand edition. In the post-2000s, Marvel would sometimes borrow a UPC of another title and just slap it on the bardcode for the newsstand edition of a different title. Joosh or HCanes could probably provide a better explanation than me.

they did that with Ultimate Fallout 4. The upc box said Black Panther.

These post 2000s are fun to find.

nah. Why go through the trouble of generating a new bar code when you can just pull a random one you already have?
