Overall verdict - not bad. This move is targeted for the Asian markets with Bollywood and K-Pop. My wife loved it and to me - it had its moments - incl one hilarious moment involving Flerkens but not sure how well Americans are gonna like this move. Oh - and if haven't read any s;poilers yet - x-men hints in the post credit scene. What are your thoughts? |

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Which is hardly a positive review. For me, they stack up now as follows: (from bottom to up) 1. Quantumania - Remains my #1 atrocious, just awful Marvel movie 2. Thor #3 - Probably the biggest downer as I had super high hopes 3. Marvels - not in the same category as #1 & #2 but yea... more targeted for a 10 year old. |

I enjoyed it. I wouldn't say it's targeted at Asian markets because there's one bit with singing and an Asian guy, but dunno. I thought it was fairly light and fun. People still looking for Endgame-level stakes in every movie are going to be disappointed. I did think Iman Vellani did a great job again as Ms. Marvel. I'm sure there are people who find the fan girl thing grating, but I think she nails the character and brings a lot of heart to the movie. |

Definitely a mashup: part Freaky Friday, part musical, part action adventure, but what was at stake? Photon being transported to an alternate universe. Binary being her mother, but not. Kamala’s call to action a la Nick Fury style (almost) for the Young Avengers. Stay tuned True Believers… |

Some day, I do believe writers will remember how to tell a good story in a comic-based movie again. Somewhere along the way, they lost their minds. |

I liked it better than the first Captain Marvel. I thought their powers displacing each other was a nice nod to Mar-Vel and Rick Jones and they used it to good effect in a couple of sequences. Kamala and her family are a highlight for me as I think Ms. Marvel is the most underrated Disney+ show. The Flerken sequence was bonkers but for me in a good way. It’s just a, at least for the most part, lighthearted romp and I’m fine with that. At least they didn’t show half the movie in the promotional materials. Almost everything was from the first 15 minutes. Dar-Benn is a very Phase 1 style villain, and the story is a little disjointed, but I had a good time. |

Honest question. For those of you who went to see the Marvels, and really anything else MCU-related since the closing of Avengers: Endgame, how do you hype yourself up? Serious question. Since Endgame, I've seen Spider-Man: Far From Home and No Way Home, Dr Strange 2, Black Widow, GOTG 3, and a few of the shows but I've felt like it is a chore trying to get into it. Some of the stuff has its moments, but it doesn't hit me like 2008-2019 did. I find most of it to be derivative of itself and content overload is probably playing a part in it as well. It kind of reminds of when Metallica was putting out a bunch of bad records in the 90s and early 2000s but they went platinum anyway because people bought it out of habit. Is that where we're at? What gets you hyped? Is it the characters or the overall setup to where things are going? Possibly what can be flipped for a few more dollars because of a cameo? I have no desire to see the Marvels or much else from Disney right now. I might get around to it later. We'll see. | ||

@Studley_Dudley right now I'm a bit hyped to see the new Planet of the Apes and Ghostbusters movies. I'll still likely wait until they come out on DVD, since I've been so disappointed by my theatre exeperiences in recent years. I think the last comic movie I was actually hyped to see was Venom vs Carnage and that was a huge disappointment. I didn't think they could go so wrong with Tom Hardy and Woody Harrelson, but somehow they made the movie unwatchable. Great characters, different directors/writers, actors I like and a lot of time off from watching Marvel/DC movies might be the only thing that can get me hyped for another comic related film. That being said, I don't mind not being hyped up for anything. The main problem is, even with incredibly low expectations, I'm still consistently disappointed. Edit: Looking at the 2023/24 schedule Deadpool 3 is the only thing I'm looking forward to. That might be worth a try in theatres. |

@Studley_Dudley I think alot of people are feeling like you. A big part of it is (in my opinion) the climax of Endgame is over and there appears to be no direction for the next major event....Kang and the lead up is not like Thanos and Endgame. Also...the writing of these more recent movies have more overt political correctness leanings that a lot people aren't going for. I am excited for Fantastic Four unless they give me reason not to be. |

I just watched a movie Nun #2. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ I give up. Between Marvels last night, and this dumbass Nun movie I'm seriously not sure if anyone in Hollywood can write a script anymore. What a waste of 2 evenings. I mean who writes these stories? 3rd graders? |

@Studley_Dudley I don't get myself 'hyped up' to see movies exactly, but I go with the expectation that I'll see something fun I haven't seen before. That's what a movie is for, right? A couple hours of entertainment. I don't read books expecting all of them to be Shakespeare or comic books expecting them all to be Dark Knight Returns (or what have you). For The Marvels in particular, I enjoyed Kamala Khan's character in the show and was looking forward to more of that, and seeing more space battles and whatnot. I also think there's a lot of selective memory in the MCU Endgame run. Yeah, Iron Man was a lot of fun because RDJ brought a lot to the role. Winter Soldier was very well done. But Thor was good mostly as the surprise of not being bad, and Thor 2 was worse. Iron Man 2 is no one's favorite movie and 3 wasn't great shakes either. No one remembers that Norton Hulk is actually in there. Even when they brought the whole team together, Age of Ultron was meh. People don't think about it the same way they complain no one makes good music any more, forgetting that 90% of what came out from their favorite time period was immediately disposable. And since someone mentioned Carnage, I can tell you that I'm happy for the relative mediocrity of what Marvel puts out compared to what Sony does to comic characters. Sweet Lord. |

Yeah, Sony really threw away that $7M they paid for Spider-man movie rights. Flop after flop. My memory of MCU then vs now is fully intact. I actually disliked End Game and felt their original phase peaked with Infinity War. It has been downhill since then, with the occasional pleasant surprise. |

@Davethebrave When studley asked why people go to the movies, I didn't think the discussion was about ROI. I'm sure that Sony is happy to put out their bad-to-mediocre movies that make a profit. As a fan who would like to see competently-made comic movies, Sony is not hitting the mark. If anyone is interested, this article collects a bunch of ratings from reviewers and fans and plots out all the MCU movies through Quantumania https://thedirect.com/article/marvel-movies-worse-data |

Is $110 million a positive globally? I haven't looked at any other mcu movies but 110 just off top of my head seems pretty darn sad as well |

Reality is they likely have to hit $600M or so to break even. Especially given the splits of more box office from foreign - the studios pocket more from domestic box office. |
