I don't believe this....and I know you don't care that I don't believe this.

That's quite the story arc!
Not having grown up reading much DC, is this a complete arc? or does it leave you hanging?
A little of both actually....When Kirby left Marvel for DC in '70/"71 he pitched his Fourth World story as a finite story which was to have a beginning, middle and end. DC agreed and Kirby fully plotted his story this way. DC changed their mind though, several issues into the published story (even though New Gods and Forever People were eventually cancelled only 11 issues in...Mister Miracle faired better at 18 issues) because they wouldn't let Darkseid (and others) die (which in the original intended story would have been at the hands of his son Orion). They forced Kirby to change his already plotted story on the fly....(obviously impacting the quality of the storytelling). The Hunger Dogs was released in 1984 as an olive branch extended to Kirby for DC cancelling/changing his original story. So to answer your question...is it a cliff hanger? Not really...is it the ultimate story Kirby wanted to tell? Not really.
Mind you..its been a long time since I read the story. |
