Hello all, has anyone found a comparable alternative to Gemini mailers?

It's like the Roach Motel for comic collectors. chester15 private msg quote post Address this user
Why? Are you looking for something similar but cheaper?

I thought Gemini mailers were fairly reasonable in price, especially by the hundred. And easily reusable, as more mailers populate the system.

While they are competitive, every cent counts towards the bottom line. Just looking for options without sacrificing quality.

You mean other than creating your own?

I used to find thick/robust cardboard boxes at BJs/Costco and cut them up and make my own. It was free, and every bit as good/robust in the end (I just used 4 layers of thick cardboard). Can’t get better than that. Never had a problem.

But when I was shipping 10+ books a week it was very time consuming. So I went with Matt’s Baseball.

I forget how it all worked out but the more you buy the better discount, and I think depending on where you are you may get discounted shipping too. Reach out to them to get the details before you buy.

Yeah, we're on opposite coasts.

Last time I ordered bags and boards from Matt's, they showed up the next morning! And I ordered after 4PM!

But I don't use mailers often enough to buy any. I just reuse the ones I receive.

When I used to need to ship more mailers, I made my own, like @Drogio. I just used a single sheet of cardboard cut to a template size. I wrapped it around bubble wrapped hardcover books. It extended an inch or more beyond the top and bottom of the wrapped book. In those ends, I put a 3/4" foam tube that acted as a bumper. The tubes cost me 7 cents each, the cardboard was free.

To have the tubes come out at 7 cents each, I had to buy a roll that was hundreds of feet long, like 900 ft. Then I cut them to size with scissors. A bit of work every now and then, but worth it to me. I was shipping a ton of books.

I just recently bought a small run of these to try out because of the price:

I didn’t need 50 or 100, so buying a small amount of these made more sense for me, as opposed to buying Geminis in bulk.

I would say they are working “okay”. The pre-made folds make the package area very thin—truly only able to fit 1 bagged & boarded Modern Age comic in it plus 1 (and only 1) cut piece of cardboard extra to painter’s tape the book to. Maybe 2 comics if you don’t want to do any extra cardboard.
You could probably force fold the cardboard to do what you need to with it, but I haven’t tried yet.

Matt has the best deals most of the time.
I've been using the CSP for a few years. No problems...

Normally I use the Gemini mailers but got a good deal from Matt's Baseball.
I got an order of 125 for $104.50 taxes and shipping included.

Here's a list of their retailers. If one's close to you maybe they have a good deal on them:

That’s why I say reach out to him. Might be able to do better than the website on shipping.
