Blue Beetle19872

I award you no points! stanley_1883 private msg quote post Address this user
Curious about the movie as I’m kind of unfamiliar with the character to begin with.

However, just to point out, Blue Beetle is a product of Cobra Kai so that’s a huge plus. Sensei I Johnny Lawrence teaches the superheroes well.

It's on the list after my 3rd Barbie adventure. Guilty...
I can report that everyone exiting the Barbie showings seems far happier than those for Oppenheimer.

Oppenheimer is good. Not sure it's a movie you leave feeling happy like barbie.

It is good. Suffers from superhero origin template kind of story, but that is hard to get around for this movie. Xolo Maridueña was excellent for the lead.

I heard from someone that on a scale of 1 to 10, it rates a pile of dung, adding that it looks like a made-for-tv movie. I think domestically it made 25 million, which is the 2nd worse weekend opener for a DC film.
I lost my interest when I heard someone in the film says Batman is a fascist, which just gave me the impression it's another "trash anything that came before" film. yawn.

If Disney and WB and Pixar simply made an effort to make a good film, without anything designed to divide, they'd probably do better, but it seems they just HAVE to say or do something that puts a line right down the middle.
Of course, a good story requires talented writers, but instead these studios hire activists who can spell. They obviously can't write original stories or create new, original characters. All they can do is switch and signal. IMO

@Siggy I think Barbie pretty much destroyed that tired, old argument.

I don't mind a good message here and there. Movies can lead to some positive changes. However I don't want or need one everytime. It gets repetitive.

Not sure I understand, but I haven't seen Barbie. Is it because Barbie is a gay black man in the new movie?

Wow ... just ... wow.

No. It's because it's a movie with a brand new character and the movie has some obvious social messages and is a smash hit. That's all I'm going to say on this subject. Google is your friend.

If you all want to discuss this further, go ahead, but don't drag politics into it.

@flanders since this is pretty much a dude forum, maybe when Barbie is on streaming a bunch of us can do a remote man-date movie night and all watch it at the same time. Then we can start a thread to discuss.

Barbie has Will Ferrell in it, but no cowbell. It reminded me of a well written, very funny comedy.
Looking forward to Blue Beetle. Of course having amassed many gold and all the silver age Blue Beetles I will be prejudiced.
I only own one Barbie, so I was less invested in it.

I'm in, but only if there's some sort of bet beforehand and whoever loses needs to dress up as Barbie for the streaming.

The way I hear it, many people think it's a satire because all that stuff was laid on so thick, it appears it's meant to be laughed at rather than admired.
I challenge anyone in "Hollywood" to come up new characters that are as popular as the characters they destroy, but they won't, because they can't. That's what's "tired," IMO

How is Barbie a brand new character? She was in Toy Story 2 & 3, not to mention on store shelves for decades. They took a character known all over the world and applied their own characteristics to her. There's nothing new about her.
