Never been a fan of tamales. My grand dad used to buy the canned version of them, Hormel Beef Tamales. I think he even ate them without removing the paper wrapper.

You're missing out. I think this happened to me while eating steamed buns at an Asian restaurant in my mid 30s.

Ingredients

1 pound lean ground beef
1/4 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard
3/4 cup ketchup (Or can try 15oz tomato sauce)
3 teaspoons brown sugar
salt to taste
ground black pepper to taste

Directions

In a medium skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, onion, and green pepper; drain off liquids.
Stir in the garlic powder, mustard, ketchup, and brown sugar; mix thoroughly. Reduce heat, and simmer for 30 minut
es. Season with salt and pepper.

optional additions

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, 1 turn of the pan
2 teaspoons to 1 tablespoon steak seasoning blend, such as McCormick brand Montreal Seasoning

I made this and I can say that this is the best Sloppy Joe recipe that I've made.

A few things; use tomato sauce instead of ketchup, add the Worcestershire sauce, and add two teaspoons of the Montreal Steak Seasoning. I also added 3/4 tsp. salt and 1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper. The best.

Substituting tomato sauce in place of ketchup for a sloppy joe… not a sloppy joe.

A sloppy Giuseppe, sure.

In the past, the idea of Sloppy Joes was always better than the execution... not this time.
