I agree. It is impressive that IH 181 has been reaching ridiculous prices on its own merit. No speculation involved just key facts. Yes Wolverine is in deadpool 3, but unrelated to the book and the market strapped a rocket to 181 and sent it to the stratosphere long before any Deadpool spec/rumors.

I still hope it crashes so I can one for a reasonable price someday.

I have been close on pulling the trigger on some low grade sub 2k copies. But I have to have the mvs in the book. I don't want a green label

I think it'll go on the low end of what a 9.8 has gone for in the last year and maybe be a new low. If you scroll down through the other Hulk 181's at the auction it appears the CBCS copy is faded. The colors don't look nearly as appealing.

If it sells for under 39k, I think it will double in value in 5 years.

If it sells for $47,250 I think it has the same chance of doubling as it does in halving in value at some time over the next 15 years.

Is that color sun faded or a printing defect?

I'm not sure one can deduce color fade or color defect from a picture....couldn't the color distortion just be the picture itself?

This is true. Can’t always trust digital color representation. Could even be a different scanner was used, or different settings were employed when scanning the book.

Does that mean you're the new owner? You said if you bid up to 40k your wife would divorce you, but what if you only bid up to 30k.....

The "halving" part came a little earlier than the doubling part.

It never reached $47,250. I figured the odds of that exact outcome were (of course) virtually zero. Rendered my related “non-prediction” even nuller than null.

In any event, a really weak result even if I am not a buyer at $22k, let alone $27k.

I thought the "half" was a pretty good prediction. Just came sooner than expected. You may have called the bottom. Just not sure if it's the bottom for Hulk 181 or for CBCS/CGC spread.

I might be wrong but it seems like golden age books aren't dropping as much. At least they seem like they haven't dropped much.

I hope everyone has the same mentality I do when reviewing what you paid for something between 2020-22:

"Well, I might as well buy three more of these. That'll greatly reduce the average price I paid.

And @Ebaymafia, happy birthday. I hope you do something enjoyable even if it's only taking the day off work.

Dollar Cost Averaging...very smart! I'm going to remain a spectator for a couple more months.

Ya know, there is a lot of good things to say about CBCS. If it were not for CBCS, CGC would still be the same "don't give a shit what you think we own the market" company they were before 2014. Real competition motivated CGC.

But the market is getting clear here. CBCS 9.8's are not bringing CGC 9.8 prices AT NO RESERVE AUCTIONS. The difference in price is - most of the time - small to non existent in low to VF grade books. But buyers just will not pay the CGC premium for CBCS 9.8's AT AUCTION. Often times the final price lands something just over the 9.6 price. If one has CBCS 9.8's one wants to sell, patience and formats that let you list the book at a price and perhaps accept offers will serve better. This particular book probably brought more $$ on ComicLink as an exchange listing.

Speaking of this particular copy - as others have noted the colors did not seem as deep and/or vibrant as expected for a 9.8. On someone's wall as a display for a while maybe? Just a touch of fading?

The investor in me wonders - this CBCS 9.8 Hulk 181, would it come back as a 9.8 CGC? If not and it comes back a 9.6 CGC, would the $$ drop be prohibitive? After all, there's LOTS of fees involved in getting a $25k plus book shipped and graded... (It's not going priority mail, AND the grading fee (4% is about $1,100), and return shipping costs...

I think worrying about the grade dropping is the fear here... lol
