Non-Paying eBay Bidders List19730

Collector SidTheSquid private msg quote post Address this user
Starting a list of non-paying eBay bidders... as I'm guessing I'm not the only ebay seller frustrated by non-paying bidders. And since ebay won't even allow you to leave negative feedback for non-payment, I thought it might just be easier to prevent wasted time by sharing a list....

Ebay needs to crack down on these perpetrators. They need to realize the seller is also a customer and transparency is vital and a 2 way street.

I don’t understand why a seller can not leave negative feedback for non-payment, seems like that would be about the only reason to leave negative feedback as a seller.. makes no sense.

I don’t understand why the seller or eBay don’t give the 2nd highest bidder a chance to come back and win the item with their last bid if the person that out bid them didn’t pay or had no intentions to pay and ruined the auction

Exactly. There needs to be some kind of transparent notification..awareness brought forth to let sellers know this buyer has a history of bailing..flaking on deals and not paying Especially if they've done it repeatedly. It's warranted.

I'm a little surprised that Ebay hasn't been reformed by class action lawsuits at this point. I would imagine that a review of their internal communications would reveal the intentional facilitation of actions that violate both criminal and civil laws. My son recently used my account to sell a football helmet to what most likely was a teenager. I messaged the tracking number to the buyer but did not enter it into the normal Ebay system. Fortunately, the odd and obnoxious communication style of the buyer gave me the foresight to require a signature at delivery. 3 weeks after signing for it, the kid got the wise idea to try to get a refund by claiming that it never arrived. I provided Ebay with the tracking number that showed "signed by J. Smith" and it went away. But the buyer is still on Ebay after attempting to commit a crime.

Solution is simple; stop using said site. If enough sellers walk they will feel it. This isn't 1990 anymore. More than one game in town

agreed, but fixed the date for you. The football helmet is the only thing sold on my Ebay account since 2021. My comic book sales are through MCS and it is almost completely drama free, with just a couple of non-payments each year.

eBay is trash. Besides non paying bidders, eBay allows fraudulent and dubious auctions to see their conclusion, despite desperate efforts to warn them.
Earlier this year I saw a Kelly Jones "original Batman page" for auction. I asked the seller to show me a picture of the back. It was easy from there to determine the item was a print not an original. The picture was added late so bidders likely never saw it.
I told the guy he had to take it down but he ignored me. I followed eBay protocols to report the auction but nothing was done.
The final bid on the "original art" aka a print was over $14,000.
I got so many people involved that somehow finally, it appeared the unwitting buyer didn't get scammed. The piece was relisted two weeks later as a print and sold for a few hundred.
I use eBay occasionally to dump a few comics, but that's it.
They are trash.

Agree. Though some shenanigans (eg review manipulation) are really only readily actionable over the past few years.

Disclaimer: the above is merely my lay opinion and does not constitute legal advice or any claim of wrongdoing on the part of eBay or any of its subsidiaries or affiliates.

Those thieving bastards.

They do. It's already a function on the site. It's called Second Chance Offer.

I accepted a second chance offer years ago and realized immediately that it was probably a mistake. The problem of course is that this incentivizes shill bidding. And if you're dealing with a shill-bid seller, you never know what other shenanigans you are dealing with. Sure enough, when I got the booked graded it was either trimmed or color-touched. It's like getting screwed twice in one transaction, once by the shill bidder running the price up on you and a second time by the resto surprise.

Does MCS have an option for payment via Money Order or Check?
Anyone know?

I am using Collector's Comics as they make those two options available once books are sold.
But MCS is huge so I'd use them if they offer those payment options

I couldn’t tell you how annoying it is that this a reality you have to accept as a seller. Oh but how much it joys me when when buyers are clearly in the wrong and eBay sided with me. Many reasons why have not listed in years. I do use eBay for purchases. Though the price discrepancies between eBay sellers and Auto Dealer ships for OE parts is ungodly and goes both ways without reason. Up to 50% difference more or less either way; the parts are from the same source. Shift boot eBay $80 - dealer $150, tow cover eBay $10 - dealer $4.65. I went off on a tangent, but yeah.

Poshmark is my go to right now. Not telling anyone what to do. But in my opinion they are small enough right now that they take care of buyer and seller. Do your own research on the site if you are inclined.

They actually used to allow exactly that. I remember getting emails from eBay as the second highest bidder offering it to me for my last highest bid when the highest bidder fell through (This was quite a few years ago however). Have they changed their policy?

So my problem now with eBay is I win a bid but then the seller messages me and says hey Iam sorry but I don’t have that comic I listed it by mistake or something. My thought is it didn’t sell for what the seller wanted so they just refund my money and then put it back up for sell…..

Next prob I have had is sellers sending me the wrong comic this happend this week seller messaged me the day it’s to arrive and tells me they sent the wrong comic I said well send the right one I will send the other back to you cost me 13 bucks to send it back to them still waiting for the right comic it may never show up who knows…….
Next I have bought multiple comics from the same seller to get better deals on shipping I try to do that it’s more economical to send five comics than one comic. The seller forgot to send the other 4 comics… it’s not always the sellers who get screwed the buyer get their share as well

@Travis I think @DrWatson meant Welcome to the "new" eBay. (maybe not much different than the old 'bay)

Perhaps we need a thread for non-shipping sellers, to include verified screwups.
