If you follow the tape through the fold, is it attached to another page? Also, are all the pages there?

@Jesse_O - Could the tape have been used to reattach the centerfold pages, or to prevent them from becoming detached?

I've never seen this before.

That is bizarre. The tape is folded around the bent part of the staple only? Was someone trying to press the book and protect the pages from the staples?

Here's the original post and some other guesses. The tape is just on the staples.

"What do you make of this? It seems to be tape (no longer sticky) but the pages are not tape damaged- possibly restapled with the tape but the staples are clean (but not too clean for me to confirm a restaple) so how to explain the staining/browning?
I’ve never seen this in a book before- I need answers so I can sleep tonight!"

"It's an old type of binding tape. Used to help rebind spines of books. Usually used on thick books. Not common on comic books."

"If someone restapled it, they could of added tape to fill the gap before the new staple and the paper, since it wasn't factory tight."

I'm pretty sure CGC still does this but not CBCS (not anymore anyway). I believe CBCS charges a flat rate of $200 to grade high value books regardless of how high the value.

CGC on the other hand charges a % fee based on the value of the book (high value books). The higher value the book the bigger the fee CGC charges.

Isn't this a bit of a conflict? The higher the grade of the book, the higher CGCs fee is. Isn't this an incentive to grade books higher so CGC can charge more?

Does CGC still use this method of billing for high value books?

So if you had a run of Uncanny X-men from 110 - 400 and were going to get some of them graded which 10 would you get done first?

@MutantMania it would depend on grade but your keys are something like 120, 121, 129, 130, 141, 142, 221, 244, 266, 282.

Does anyone here sell on Shortboxed or Shopify?
I'm looking to ad some more places to sell my comics.

I sell most of my items through ebay and then local (Craigslist, OfferUp, etc.) Nothing super high dollar

I wish I could try a convention but I don't think I could due to health issues.

Thanks 😊

Something weird happened. So I have a few books up on Marketplace. One of them was a nice Spiderman #1 9.8 CGC Newstand copy.
It looked great. I kept it in the plastic sleeve and had it in and out of my book bag a couple of days until I could hook up with the guy. Well, when I went to show it to him, there were 2 black fuzzy looking things inside the holder to the left side of the book. They might have been dead little bugs too, it was hard to tell. The seal was nice and tight. I was embarrassed and the stuff was clearly not
in the photo that I posted. He agreed as I offered to take $5. off the price as he purchased it. Here is my questions: could he resubmit it for a reholder or can only the original person who submitted it do that? Also, has this happened to you guys where something gets in the case out of the blue? I also want to note that the plastic sleeve was the type that was open on one end and did not have a lip to fold over.

Yes, he can submit it for reholder.

My guess would be that the debris was always inside the slab. It was probably over a darker portion of the book making it far less noticeable. The book being in your book bag and being jostled around probably moved the debris to a more conspicuous area and made it more noticeable.

Handy mans corner!!
Home reno underway but a few things we need to provide. Our new tub did not come with an overflow cover but I've never seen this type of hookup..normally its just a little fitting with 2 screws and then the cover screws into that. Anyone seen this setup before? Does it have a name I should be googling? Can't for the life of me find something that would snap on

Is that the overflow for your tub? There has to be a cover for that. You can see where it would snap on. A quick internet search shows what seems to be a silver cap.

Based on anonymous sources may be OSB.

Also, have used watco snap on overflows in the past. You may find they can be used (unsure, not ideal since it looks like you’re just missing the cover).

@KatKomics If it's a new tub I'd start by contacting the tub manufacturer. I'm betting they'd send you the part when they find out you didn't receive one.

Overflow covers are purely aesthetic anyway. Skip the cover, just dangle your antique razors from the protrusions so they will be right there when you want to shave your legs in your fancy new tub.

yeah..I e-mail them and they just said that model didn't come with a cover and that it was 'additional purchase from alternate brand'
just crazy - would have thought the tub would have come with at least a standard chrome one.

Nothing I've seen seems like it would work - even the ones @Davethebrave linked to.

I figure since the reno isn't done we'll see what the guys suggest but I may silicone or epoxy a traditional plate in and go from there!

just the oddest thing - not that I have much experience but this is a different setup than the normal one just about every tub I've ever seen has! (or some variation on it)

maybe...maybe..this is it?
Looks like this kit uses the old plate to hold the clip on assembly where mine just has the clip on base as part of the tub?
Hate things on-line - would love to get one in-store in person so I could try it out and if it didn't fit just return with no shipping BS etc.

I must be getting old - I think this is the stupidest thing ever if this is really what is going on - and for a tub manufacturer to handcuff you to a new style that it appears no vendors really carry - and maybe even my install guys as the overflow drain does not have the standard screws - but maybe they did that because the tub had the built in fitting - I don't know.
It's too late to have a drink so instead I'll just curse at the world over and over in my mind!!!

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Did you ask them who the alternate brand was? There's no way you are the only person who has had this question.
