CBCS has rejected good sigs and verified fake ones. It's all just "best guess" circumstances.

A lot of people, including me, have an example where CBCS said no, but Stan Lee said yes... by signing it.

Just the way it goes.

@Sigur_Ros I agree on all your points.
I also believe that the Stan Lee sig is legit and I have not even seen it. I’m putting a little faith in the COA. If I’m not mistaken is it true that CBCS will honor a CGC witnessed sig as legit? I know it’s not the same as the example here just that they will accept them to some degree. Sigs are kind of a deal with me. I don’t chase them now but I used to. Have a short box of signed books from 30 years ago that I am so far 5 for 5 with verification from CBCS. This might sound crazy but I expect any more that I send in to pass as well. I personally had them signed so I expect the pros to be able to correctly verify them when the time comes. But for all I know maybe Monks bumped Linsner while signing my Cry for Dawns and that skewed the sig just enough for CBCS to say nope we don’t like it-rejected. I might find out someday. I love this hobby.

I thought foxing is the result of oxidation of the materials found in paper of the era.....is this correct?

If this is true, from a grade perspective, shouldn't foxing be treated like a manufacturing error...meaning little to no impact on the grade?

Or is foxing a result of foreign matter introduced after manufacturing?

@GAC - I believe that foxing is usually a result of less than ideal storage conditions. So not all copies of a book, no matter how old, will show foxing.

hmmm..so probably treated like rust on staples instead of a naturally occurring defect over time.

From what I can gather, foxing is a reddish-brown stain that can form on old paper. The term “foxing” comes from the color. There’s a theory that foxing is caused by the oxidation of iron or copper in the makeup of the pages. It’s also believed that heat and humidity (storage conditions) can contribute to foxing, whether it’s oxidation or mold. It hasn't been clearly established as to what exactly foxing is and how it occurs.

Excellent!

If foxing is caused by foreign matter than I completely understand the grade impact...if it's a reaction from materials found within the paper at the point of manufacturing then perhaps a case can be made to not hit the grade as hard....treated a similarly to a manufacturing defect.

But it looks like it's too hard to tell.

I've only seen a few of his films. For some reason I don't especially like comedy films by anybody.

I'm glad that it was a movie reference and not what you had laying around though.... lol

I'm sure there's a "I know it when I see it" angle, but here's a section from the terms of use:

Users may not transmit or encourage others to transmit material or links to content considered patently offensive in nature. This includes, but is not limited to, using vulgar, profane, or sexually explicit language in reference to race, religion, sexual orientation, culture, ethnicity, disability, nationality, or gender as a means of insult; violent material; using threatening, harassing, defamatory, hate-speech, or libelous language; and posting, requesting, linking to, or otherwise sharing material considered pornographic, obscene, graphic, or hate speech

Reality is that a couple of these rules are regularly broken. Graphic violence is depicted regularly, for example.

I was sitting around watching YouTube videos of drunk drivers being pulled over by the cops and doing those sobriety tests. Just for s and g, I got up and tried doing them (walk a straight line, lift a foot and hold it, etc) and failed miserably. Are they supposed to be easy?

@Gaard They are designed for them to give themselves legal authority to arrest you until you blow back at the jail. If you blow zero, MOST of the time you're released.

If cop is a d*ck, this happens...

This teenager is now suing for wrongful arrest.

It appears this police department has a problem doing this before.

Last I remember, yes (but not vice-versa).
Though, I don't know who would want to do that unless they wanted pressing or want labels to match other books.

I think the whole sobriety test being conducted by someone that already thinks you've been drinking is a very weird biased test.

In Australia there's no test, just blow in the bag (in the 70s) to now blow in the device where it accurately gauges alcohol level.
