Not really the topic - but why in the world you restore those books? They would all fetch good money in a blue label slab.

Hero restoration supposedly did pressing and such. It wasn't just restoration. I asked them to do work on my tales of suspense first iron man
Thankfully they said no grade bump would occur and suggested I leave it be.

I really wonder why people do this sort of stuff.....you're going to get caught. No matter how smart you are, you will not outsmart an entire community of people....especially hobbyists who love their books. They're bloodhounds at the first inkling of something going awry.

It is never ever worth it but it continues to happen. Crazy.

This is getting crazier. Mike has contacted me and apparently he still has books that were listed for sale on ebay. His excuse is he was getting his own personal collection mixed up with customer books and listing the wrong ones - but once he noticed the mistake he cancelled the listing (the tales of suspense posted above is still with him and he has verified it was never a completed sale that was shipped)

Evidently the original poster who made all the meth claims is in fact the actual meth head who may have actually stolen books from him?

WHAT IS GOING ON AND I CAN'T KEEP TRACK OF ALL THIS! I NEED A TEAM TO PARSE THIS CASE RESEARCH FOR ME, I'M ONLY ONE MAN

SIGH, this getting too crazy for me to even help mitigate and act as a middle man...I've done what I can and so far have managed to get 60k worth of books returned (and based on my latest email with him several more customer orders are being sent out this week, including the Amazing Fantasy #15 pictured in the texts as originally planned).

Is shady stuff going on...most certainly, but what exactly it was I have no idea anymore (be it theft, drug use or whatever), so long as I've helped some customers get their books back I've done what I can up to this point but need to stop getting in the middle of this with so much crazy coming out of nowhere.

If the guy has time to play with ebay. Why not spend the time to return the books? I feel horrible for all the people caught in the web of deceit and lies.

Most criminals are too dumb to realize they’ll eventually get caught.

These scams happen across all hobbies - anything where money is flowing attracts these types. During periods of excess it gets amplified and victims get sloppier with their diligence as well…

@SauceDog You’ve done great buddy, but you may need to duck out now. If Mike is selling stolen goods, then you don’t want to get sucked into any legal processings.

100% ain't getting involved in that further than what I'm doing now; I simply pass along the survey customer list info to Mike and push for him to make returning those books a priority - so at least some customers we know of get their property back (of which I was one of). But as for parsing or verifying all this new crazy drama and accusations....

Having just seen The Beekeeper, I'll just say it's a good thing Mike didn't take a comic from one of Jason Statham's friends.

I feel terrible for Mike as he was honest, cared about his clients as well as our hobby and we were/are friends.
That said, I tried to help him, but things he did, just made it worse and I could no longer help him 😞
I have watched some good people crash and burn in our great hobby for almost 40 years. Shame. To many real crooks, who don't care about any of you and our hobby, are "big" and still around today. SUCKS!😡

I really hope Mike gets it together and makes good to all people he needs to, once/if he gets it together. He was a good man! Honest and helpful!

VERY SAD!

If I can help in any way, please contact me at: sborock@ComicLink.com
Peace,
Steve

If you haven't checked out the thread across the street in a while, go for it. Some quick hits:
-Some people are at least getting their books back.
-Others have had their books sold as Mike "confused" customer books with his own.
Probably more stuff too.

oh, there is WAYYYY more stuff - especially when we consider I have not posted everything going on (legally some info is better I don't throw out publicly at the moment, but trust me it would only make people demand Mike's head even louder, but best leave it for now while the other people I know move forward with legal action)

As for returned books: The survey had 18 replies from HR victims, of those I was able to help half get their property returned. Not including the returned 1940 Flash #1 (which I have no idea the actual value of in this case, but it is at LEAST another $40k book), the total value of books returned thus far is approximately $180,000us (note this estimate is low. It is based on the amount each customer declared at the time of submission for insurance purposes, so at current FMV the value of all books would be higher. For example this includes a mid grade AF15 valued only at $5000).

The only money I've been able to get back to customers is having Mike compensate the owner of one of the books he sold on ebay (full amount it sold for on ebay) - all other fees and charges paid by customers is thus far lost and I don't foresee that changing for the better (At last count it was around $45,000usd cash paid by those who filled out the survey that has not been refunded)

Officially I've stopped communicating with Mike at this time and have closed the survey. It has got to a very toxic point I'm not comfortable dealing with, and the current state of his affairs requires he deals with the police directly. I'm not getting in the middle of legal issues and theft investigations.

For those wanting to know the latest: It was revealed that Mike's store, Cool Stuff, was robbed back in January (and he didn't even tell me back then) and many customer comics were stolen. He blames the meth head who took his keys many months ago (but he never thought to change the locks when he knew this?), and who he explicitly told what was inside the store and its value (this is the same person he offered customer books to via text, including a 'hot' Amazing Fantasy #15)

I'm not sure exactly how many books, or which ones, were taken but suffice to say no good will come of this and more customers should expect to never get their property back. At this point those able to push legal action should do so (if they have not already done so)

I don't know if any lurkers are still following this, but some developments on the situation across the street are that some of the books reported as stolen are showing up at MCS as consignment items. MCS has been very receptive to this situation so please contact them if you see something which could be yours. thread on CGC forum

Yup, it seems Mike sold a large amount of customer books to another dealer who then cosigned them to MCS - where a few of us noticed customer books appearing. So far it does seem this dealer was unaware of the all the comics legal status and is now also a victim in all this as these books have been pulled my MCS pending an investigation (they are in touch with the detectives working on the case already).

It also came to light that Mike damaged many epic key books. Some of them are now in the hands of Kenny Sanderson who is trying to salvage the unthinkable amount of damage done to them: https://www.instagram.com/p/C7Ipj8UsI0e/?img_index=1

I really can't summarize all the crazy stuff that has happened in the last few months, best to just read the entire CGC thread on it and enjoy the ride.

I'm looking forward to the documentary and wouldn't mind watching the trial. I'll let you know if Tom responds. I've sent him some messages on Instagram over the last year that he's ignored. I've never met him and I'm a nobody in the comic community but it would be interesting to see if he responds to the comment I posted on his most recent youtube video.

Most of the articles about the arrest don't really delve into how bad it is for him since it wasn't just theft but outright racketeering (and ANOTHER DUI to boot)

Racketeering leads to RICO if an organizational hierarchy is established for all this. DeChellis is the right ethnicity for RICO also. Oh mio Dio, che paisan!

From the article:

"Judge Rachel Kittson-MaQatish set DeChellis’ bail at $10,000."

For someone with two DUI's and being accused of stealing over $300,000, which will likely increase, the bail should be set at over 300k.

i guess this is what happens when judges are selected based on popular votes in a district which may be “progressive”?
