I'm sure there will be many who don't like it, goes with the territory

I really like it, and im.sure this will bring in some business from CGC. Maybe not all total swap over, but regular CGC submitters could be inticed to send maybe 5 to 15% of their business to CBCS if the label (and not resell profits, or thinking case was inferior) was the main reason they never submitted.

Time will tell. I'm making a mark in my calendar to revisit this a year now from after many books have been on the market. Can't wait for the You Tube comic centered channels to start doing pieces on this.

Either way, CBCS has people talking. Yes, I am mostly a CGC guy, but I do send CBCS some.business as well. I am a firm believer in competition/options

I feel like the font looks off. Like it's pinched or squeezed; the height of the characters in relation to the width and spacing is too tall. It's legible, but not what my eyes particularly want to look at. Still don't like the arrow. I do think making the entire grade end of the label white is a positive change, making the numbers "pop" over the old monocoloured label without being a blatant copy of the CGC floating box.

Won't stop me from submitting to CBCS. The label is the least important part of the grading question.

Looks like they opted to keep some homage to the current label, ie Grade on the left, logo on the right, and big blue bar on the top.

I also like this more than what's coming. The problem is the grade swap. People don't like change and we are conditioned to look to the upper left for the grade. It's probably why they didn't choose it.

Steve used to always say the label design wasn't suppose to detract from the book. It is the book that's important.

Agreed on the arrow issue and the text layout looks a bit off center as well.

Getting rid of the blue stripe along the top of the label was a good move….that just looked amatuer-ish; like something you’d see on a pack of Juicy Fruit chewing gum.

Tbh, I think CBCS should basically just swipe the current look of CGC labels.more or less.

I also think the CBCS shield logo doesn’t really look too hot, I don’t think logos outside of “CBCS” and “CGC” are a good idea.

2 things that should be introduced in this new label to increase submissions and in turn, market value in the CBCS brand is a hologram (as newer CGC labels have) and the option for character custom labels as CGC rolled out a few years ago.

On copper thru moderns, custom labels tend to increase auction & BIN sale prices, well past their $5 fee.

This $5 custom label fee is more or less found money for CGC & CBCS should follow suit.

What hurts some CGC custom labels that I’ve seen lately, is the 🔑 comments (1st app etc) of a book were moved to the rear of the label, which is an incredibly stupid design layout as collectors want to see the 🔑 aspects of a book shown on the front of a slab.

That is one of the stupidest things CGC has ever done, up there with their 4/4/2016 case redesign which did away with the inner well and was basically a better looking swipe of the old school Comic Fortress 1990’s cases that primarily held books in place with tension and resulted in book waviness & SCS.

One would think that gaping design would have been considered when the 4/4/2016 era CGC case design was engineered. 😂

It took CGC quite some time to reintroduce inner wells, after that.

CBCS should learn from CGC’s mistakes, as well as CGC’s good moves, to increase the FMV of CBCS slabs……which is something all dealers and collectors should agree upon, monopolies aren’t good for any of us.

@CatmanAmerica I just realized this is an October copy. Should be coveted no matter whose slab, but being that these don't surface as often an the November copies, should be one for books as it's in the new label holder and could be a game changer. Any thoughts Cat?

This thread has got me thinking about labels from the big two (and the other guys, for that matter). The label is secondary to the service, as I have implied, but I really do think CBCS does it better than anyone else (stupid arrow shape aside).

Excluding "custom" labels, CGC has 9 different colours or colour combinations. PGX has 3. EGS has 2, but 36 additional custom colours are available.

CBCS, now that the red labels are gone, has 2. All the information that the other companies' labels show (or in the case of the CGC green label, hide) are right there in the text on the cover (or grader's notes online).

After this reflection, I feel more positive about the new labels (as long as there aren't secret colours waiting to be announced).

I think there was a label with a faded gradient versus the arrow. I'm not the biggest fan of the arrow, but I remember it looking better than the faded gradient.

I don't think they will until they OFFICIALLY announce the change. A lot of people would be upset if they got the new label when they expect the old.

Someone somewhere has figured they will make more $$ with the change...even if they lose a few customers

I would think partial??

i.e. that holofoil stuff seems like it would need to be heat applied or something - so maybe only the issue specific info is added as needed??
