From the Covington, KY Collection (no pedigree). This is the last issue in the series, with White Pages. It’s my first graded Charlton. 👍🙂

just received the ff48 4.5 back from grading. Picked it up in a collection that we made out very well on. It's awesome when the only money out is having the books graded, on both ff48's. Don't know if you guys heard about the Bry's comics fiascos going on with his mystery box. I bought 2 boxes, won a 10.0 and a 9.8. I missed the virgin variant by one. Was in 26th place and the last virgin was at 25. They have been selling on eBay for 3-5k. The 10.0 is ending tomorrow on eBay and currently sitting at 843$. Debating on selling my copies

I went to California for a bit of a vacation to see my granddaughter. Of course, I had to hit a few antique stores. Surprisingly I found some books in nice condition! The first 2 have the dreaded spinner rack spine creases

All the talk about schomburg covers had me wanting one for myself. Prolly double dipping since I'll send this for grading at some point and post graded copy.

Dang @Bronte that's a bold purchase of a raw book! I'm sure you will count the pages before you send it in. Nice book!

@EbayMafia
16 pages is what I counted. I didn't notice any cutouts when counting. I took a blacklight to it and nothing obvious screams at me. Granted i dont know what im looking for. The book was prolly a lot cheaper than you are thinking though. I had Ed look at it and he estimated a 4.0 to a 4.5 given pictures from ebay. I managed to talk him down slightly.

@Bronte MCS says 36 pages, so 18 per side:

@Bronte I wouldn't panick, MCS says 36. The front and back covers count as 4 and the interior 32.

The cover counts on a lot of those old ones as well as magazines. That’s an extra 4 pages.

Could very well be. I was 11 when this was released...it's Marvel's first mini-series. Alot of fond memories surrounding this book.

@DrWatson Can you see a difference between these two? I'm curious because I've seen 10s with visual dings and 9.8s that look perfect.

@OGJackster Honestly, I can't see anything in scans. I have to have the books in person when looking for the absence of defects.

In my cynical days of middle age, I'm beginning to believe that 10s are nothing more than who got laid by whom and when. It's who you know to some degree. There should be a notable difference between a 9.8 and both 9.9s and 10s. The difference between a 9.9 and a 10 can be as little as staple placement or registration.

I still think 9.9s and 10s are manufactured hype grades, even if I do own at least one of each. I've seen 9.8s that could be 9.9s, but then that would throw off the grade distribution curve.
