My very first Ebay negative after 5000 positives- ouch ain't fair19592

Collector harmonicaman private msg quote post Address this user
So after over 11 years on Ebay and over 5000 positives I just got my first negative on a $5 low grade comic. I offer no questions asked 30 day returns and I am a rare seller who offers to pay for return shipping as well. No contact from buyer. Kinda rotten. Should I challenge this? https://www.ebay.com/itm/255715464328

I always thought that they had to contact you first before a neg.

I haven't aired it out. It's part of the provenance. Galen130 private msg quote post Address this user
I would. From the poor-English feedback left, either this comment was a mistake, or they are just a nasty person.

Yeah for sure. I once got a negative for shipping a comic in a Gemini. Buyer said not packaged properly. Challenged and won. Some people are dumb.

You should hit the Request Revision link to the right of the feedback. Then fill out why and submit. They are pretty quick to remove obvious things like that where they make a positive comment but put a Negative mark.

If it won't go away, you can use the other link to the right that says Reply. This lets you put a comment that will show right under the Negative feedback left. There, you can explain that the buyer must have made an error - comment looks like he was happy.

@harmonicaman I would challenge it as well...contact eBay customer service and get them to remove it.

On a side note. Don't let this bother you. I used to sell books on eBay but left because of clowns like this and eBay itself who favor buyers over sellers. That being said..eBay doesn't like sellers getting negative feedback so you should be able to get the feedback removed...good luck.

eBay should honor that request because you offer free returns and the buyer didn't open a return.

I think I would leave things exactly as they are. That negative is going to work out for you better than you expect.

@harmonicaman yeah hopefully you can work something out better than my experience.

I got my first ever negative feedback after being a member since 1997 last year. They left negative feedback 35 days after receiving the package with no contact at all. No response to my messages to them about trying to resolve it.
Ebay customer service basically there was nothing I could do about it and left it as is.

It was a compliment. It looked better than pictured. They wanted to highlight it for future buyers so made it red.

Actually after reading it again you probably can get it changed by ebay.
The feedback comment doesn't match the rating.

Agreed....the buyer may have accidentally hit the Negative button instead of the Positive when writing his feedback.

You see what I see. People are more likely to read one negative review than any of the 5,000 positive. They will click on that item or other items and judge for themselves. It will work out well.

No, they don't. But that certainly won't play in their favor.
Just tell eBay that you were more than willing to work it out or refund, had they made the effort.

I assume you already tried to contact them about the possibility of an accidental negative.

Or as your reply:
"Buyer said he meant to click positive. He really thanked me in messages".

I almost never look at feedback but one time I noticed a negative. The guy clearly liked the purchase, just made a mistake. I waited too long, no clearing it after a certain length of time.

Same thing happened to me. Reach out and ask what the issue was, and hopefully it's an easy resolution. My buyer made a mistake and somehow left a negative, but changed it after I asked if I could have done something better.

Best of luck!

Just hit the links. This is specifically what they are there for.

Ebay won't remove feedback if they deem it to be the buyer's opinion, reasonable or not. But if it's an obvious error, like this is, they will remove it. They will also remove feedback if it contains foul language, is a proven lie (something stated is factually incorrect), has contact info, or is threatening. Probably a few more reasons that allow removal, I just can't think of any others at the moment.

I say that you contact the buyer first.

If they choose to be non-compliant, or just simply refuse to talk to you, challenge it. If eBay decides not to delete it, add a comment to their negative response as a warning to those who might recognize any given part of their eBay name. With the worse you do is give them a neutral response if you did not give them one, or can alter the one you already gave them. Because all I can say is that a neutral is the worst anybody should go, unless they do anything that makes you feel like you cannot do business with them.

Contacting the buyer will not remove the negative. Only eBay can remove it, and that's why they provide links to do so. The buyer can only "Follow Up" with an addendum to their feedback, but the Negative will still be there.

You hit the link, input the reason for the request to remove, wait a couple of days, gone.

But you can send a feedback revision request to the buyer and if he agrees he can revise it to a positive. He can also just decline and it will stay as is

I would contact eBay first though. Since the comment conflicts with the feedback rating they might just go ahead and remove it

when I buy. I usually will take everything into account with reviews. if I saw you with like a 99.99999% postive feedback. Ill see you as a good seller but will check why you got that 1 bad review. could it be a jerk buyer, a nitpicky buyer or you turned to the darkside. id see the review was nitpicky on condition. then verify with you.

I do the same if seller has a lot. check why. 75% could be because 1 of 4 buyers were a jerk. or 50% and half were one jerk

It’s easy to get a neg feedback like that removed, but you have to call eBay and say the feedback violates eBay feedback rules.

It does, it is not a fact.

“Looked better” is a subjective opinion about the book- if the buyer stated it “looked better than pictured but there is a piece missing out of an interior page”, that would not violate eBay feedback policy.

Nothing was posted about undisclosed damage, those are the grounds for removal.

If you request a feedback revision from the buyer, there will be a record of a feedback revision in your feedback- this will open the door to another buyer trying to neg you and force a partial or full refund out of you to revise their feedback.

I just called Ebay and got a representative right away. She took a look at the negative and said: that in light of my ongoing positive record, my 30 day return policy, no contact from the buyer, and the unclear intent of the feedback message, the negative that I got will be removed. I just checked and it is gone! Yay!!!
