Some people will pay more for cgc slabs just because of their registry

Is there a CBCS Census? It's nice to see how many comics are graded in each condition.

Not me. I've been buying CBCS slabs because they're much cheaper and a truer grade.

I hate to say this but yes "some" CBCS slabs are cheaper then their CGC counterpart.I can actually see it where people could start buying the CBCS slabs and do the CPR to CGC sort of like some of the stuff people do with PGX or old label CGC slabs

...and all those people will regret it a few years from now when CBCS is fully recognized for their product and CBCS vs CGC slabs start selling at a pgx type ratio 😉

I do not maintain my registry, but I know it is popular! If CBCS mafe one that accepted both CBCS and CGC books, they would do very well by the hardcore fans.

I've already seen books where CGC asking prices have fallen below CBCS.

You could be right. You could also be wrong. It's all opinion at this point.

I'm no big fan of slabbing in general. I see the benefits though. However, comparing the future of CGC as being really no better than PGX seems batshit crazy.

We all get it. You don't like CGC.

I don't like CGC either, but they will never fall to PGX level.

@Jerkfro @DarthLego
PGX used as an exaggeration to make the point. I dont think so either, not quite that low.

I think of it more as CGC maintaining current status and CBCS being recognized for their product and thus going higher, not CGC tanking to pgx trash status

very true. CGC=PGX? That IS a "Batshit crazy" theorem

CGC and CBCS are like Coke and Pepsi.

CGC just had a "New Coke" moment with the #CreepEngine slabs last year.

You guys are taking my pgx note faar too seriously (and backwards as noted)

I cant get down with the coke/pepsi thing though. Outlier errors like the creep aside, I've seen far too many of my own and others' cgc slabs be downgraded by cbcs. Send in 10 you're going to get at least 4 back lower. Its a trend, and the market will eventually notice.

Your right about the market taking notice. If it becomes apparent a standard CBCS 7.5 to 8.5 will come back from CGC a 9.0 to 9.2 people will start snatching up those books and will have then pressed and regraded by CGC with the grade bumps more then covering any expense that will be incurded. What would you rather have a CBCS 8.0 or a CGC 9.0 if you were planning on reselling?

Has anyone actually seen a grade difference that extreme from a book swap graded between both companies? I think 7.5 to 9.0 is stretching reality. That's PGX level shenanigans.

Yeah and I got so pissed I cracked it out and sent it to CGC. Here are both of the old labels.

BINGO!
That's why there is a lawsuit against CGC right now related to this very subject.

So, the cgc had graded it a 9.0. You sent it to CBCS and they graded it a 7.5. Then, you cracked it out and sent it back to the cgc?

Holy crap! I feel like I would not trust a cgc graded book again after that. I'm curious what the books I will be sending to CBCS to have removed and re-slabbed from cgc

Yes I just shipped it off yesterday. And yes I would buy 7.5 books all day long if they looked like my 7.5. I also have another book that came back a full grade lower after a clean and press but I'm holding off on that one until I see what this Showcase does.

@JWKyle do you plan on keeping the cgc knowing its a 7.5 or just selling it off? Or alternatively I suppose you could believe it to truly be a 9?

The greater market is going to catch on sooner or later, and if it doesnt de-value CGC slabs then it will simply add value to a CBCS slab.

Most I've seen personally was a 5.5 to 4.0. Single and half point seems more common

With notes like these, do you really expect it to come back a 9.0??? What if you get a 7.0?? Crack again and resubmit to CBCS??

Notes on 16-45A3383-003: Showcase #55
"tiny spine wear & stress & small crease on logo breaks color. fade right front cover edge
sun shadow front & back cover, tiny price in pencil top left corner back cover"

Was that from CGC or CBCS?

Nevermind, I see the CBCS # on it.

@Kaleljll - gotta be from cbcs

@JWKyle - you probably had a better chance 6 months ago when cgc was busy catching up on their backlog with their newly hired graders. From a positive note - at least they both agreed on the page quality 😆

@JWKyle do you get the notes for free on that book? This would be a great thread to compare them

My money is on missed sun shadows. Plz correct me if wrong but I dont think a book can crack 8 with them (I have a beautiful 7 with SS)
