Valiant - Worth Slabbing?1955

Collector Dshel61 private msg quote post Address this user
Are there if any of the original Valiant comics worth getting graded? I have the entire pre-Unity run with coupons and wasn't sure if I should bother with them. I know there is a couple movies in the works but would the interest be there for it.

There are definitely a few that i think are worth slabbing if they are high grade. Here are a couple that i have just submitted myself:

- Harbinger #0
- Harbinger #1
- Solar, Man of the Atom #3
- Solar, Man of the Atom #10
- Unity #0 (Red Logo Variant)

I know there are a couple logo variants that i don't have that are fairly rare from Valiant, i also believe there are a few misprints that are rare and sought after that would all be worth grading if you had them

I was thinking about this. What I'm doing is slabbing the #1, #2 of the earlier titles first.

I bought them personally brand new. Read them, then boarded & bagged them. I would say mid 9.?

Really depends on what you want them for. If its for personal collection, i would say go for it. If you are looking at it for resale, then those books i listed above (maybe with the exception of red logo unity) are only really going to be worth it if they are 9.6+

Following up on my last comment, the main reason that 9.6+ will probably be the only ones that will be worth it are because there were so many copies of Valiant books printed and they were printed in a time when paper quality was good enough to not really deteriorate over time. So even if the demand for Valiant increases (ie. Movie, show, or the brand just comes back with a vengeance with some really good writing/art), these will start being graded by the thousands with many of them coming back 9.6/9.8 or better.

I'm a big Valiant fan and have been trying to complete full runs of the first 15 books and last 5 books of each title for many years.....*winks*.....tough when you only are seeking through garage sales and estate sales and Goodwill and other thrift shops......but I agree....Pre-Unity is where the value is seen the most with these books, and now, the limited variants for the new volumes.

I also recently submitted Rai #0 (reg grading) and Harbinger #1 (VSP grading) just to see what they come back as.

Previous CGC Valiant books I have are:
9.6 SMotA #10
9.6 A&A #0
9.4 Visitor vs Valiant Universe - $2.50 edition
9.2 X-O Manowar SS ed - signed by Layton
8.5 EW #1 - I failed on this one, didn't look at it well enough

As for the Valiant print runs - they are not always large.....although some were.....many were not.....as compared to other DC and Marvel titles produced during this time.

The ValiantFan.com/guide has many print runs listed for many books, to give us collectors a better idea of what is out there. They also provide a fairly good CGC sales listing for each book, if applicable. I'd like to see CBCS join that listing, but whomever tackles this guide already, WOW - they've done a great job.

Definitely use Valiantfan.com/guide to find out which comics to get graded. It is very accurate on values of raw and stabed. It's updated weekly on ebay sales and keeps a log going back many years.

@ZosoRocks If we're lucky we will be able to stream it for free online. Thus far all of Bat in the Sun's content has been free. ✔️

I had no way of knowing that 9.8 graded copies signed by Adam Hughes weren't what you were looking for. drchaos private msg quote post Address this user
Eternal Warrior 4 is the first appearance of Bloodshot who will soon star in his own movie.

I have been buying multiple copies.

@drchaos I have a copy of that book. But he only appears on the last page in one panel. His first full appearance is in Rai 0.

I agree with Ryan here - with few exceptions, (Harbinger 1 would be worth slabbing at 9.4) in general you will want to be darn sure these will pull minimum 9.6 to be worth it. There are already a glut of some early Valiant books out there and as Ryan hinted the value plummets quickly on those. One example is Eternal Warrior 5. Somebody must have pre-screened a case at 9.8 and they don't even recover slabbing cost. I wrote about this in last quarter's Nostomania Market Report.
