Weekly Cover Contest #349 - Universes Collide!19524
COLLECTOR | dielinfinite private msg quote post Address this user | |
You vote three check marks for your FIRST favorite, Two check marks for the SECOND favorite, One check mark for the THIRD favorite. You do not need to vote for three covers, but it is strongly encouraged!!! However... DO NOT VOTE EARLY!!! (Read on!) Let's have fun with this!!! A new theme will be chosen each week, so participants must find a comic book that fits the theme. - One entry per person. - Must be real comic books in circulation. - Magazine size books are also okay. - The book does not have to be in your collection. - Variants are acceptable. - The previous winner is allowed to win in this contest. Each week we will vote on who had the best cover. - Friday begins the new contest. - Voting begins Wednesday at 12 noon EST which is the cutoff for submissions. - Voting ends Thursday at 11:59 PM EST. - Please vote through the built-in "three check marks" system described above. - Don't vote early! - The winner will be the cover with the most check marks. - Vote three check marks for a favorite, two for the second favorite and one for the third favorite. The winner will choose the next theme and begin a new thread. In the event of a tie, the deciding factor will be if the entry was of a book in a CBCS slab (only one book in the set needs to be graded; if multiple are CBCS graded then the highest grade applies). If both books are in a CBCS slab (or neither are) then the cover with the most three star votes wins. If they are still tied, then the one with the most 2 star votes wins. If the tie remains, then a sudden death contest will decide the winner. All tied contestants are to enter a new cover based upon the theme of that contest. At 9 pm EST, Friday, the cover with the most votes wins. Re-post these rules in your new thread to keep them easy to find and for new folks who want to play. The list of previous contests and winners can be found in a pinned thread on the top of the forum. **Please No Early Voting** It’s always an entertaining event when two (or more) companies bring their respective characters into one book or story! This month let’s see those inter-company crossovers! This includes crossovers with comic universes and (traditionally) non-comic properties like tv shows, movies, or KFC! |

@QuaBrot I see where you’re coming from but I don’t think it qualifies because 1) It’s a cover contest and the subject of the contest isn’t reflected on the cover 2) A parody of characters from different companies is not the same as an inter-company crossover. It’s by one company and the characters, while representative of existing characters, aren’t the existing characters. By that logic many Not Brand Echh comics would count as a crossover Then again, I don’t actually have any ruling authority on this but that’s my 2¢ |

Magazineland USA was a promotional comic created for an open house and media event at the printing plant in Sparta Illinois that printed 99% of all comics at one time. The event was in 1977 and marks the first (perhaps only?) time four comic companies crossed over into one story. It joins Marvel, DC, Harvey, and Archie Comics into a single issue and was used as a give away to everyone who attended the event (which was open to the public). Below are some informational pages from the book that told more about the event. This is my copy and the prior owner was World Color Press' personal customer service representative to both Marvel and DC back in the '60s-'90s. He was the creator and organizer for the event. |

@comicsforme Way back when, there used to be a place here in the Orlando area, up in Altamonte I think it was, called Giant Comic Book Warehouse. And man, that it was. You walked in and picked up a long box or brought your own, and filled it to the brim for 100.00. They had tables stretched about 150 feet and about 5 or six rows with long boxes on either side of the side of the tables. I went many times and loaded up several boxes (too much flippin fun lol). And I came across a box that was filled with Death Mate Black. Pristine copies. So of course I stuffed about 15 or so into one of my long boxes. That was around 1994 I think... I still have those books sitting in a box behind me somewhere. I wish that place was still open. You could spend days there and never come close to looking through all the long boxes they had. So much fun.... Thanks for the memory.. |
