DC co-Boss James Gunn announced on Twitter today that his Superman: Legacy, which he’s writing and directing, is going into pre-production. Separately, per sources, we hear that physical production will start at the top of 2024.

“I’m honored to be a part of the legacy. And what better day than #SupermanAnniversary Day to dive fully into early pre-production on #SupermanLegacy? Costumes, production design, and more now up and running,” Gunn posted to Twitter and Instagram.

Superman: Legacy is the first feature project in Gunn and co-DC chief Peter Safran’s new DC Universe, “Gods and Monsters”

“It’s not an origins story, it focuses on Superman’s balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He’s the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, he’s kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned,” Safran announced about the movie at a DC presser back in January. As previously announced a new actor will be cast for the role of the Man of Steel.

Superman: Legacy is scheduled to hit theatrs on July 11, 2025 while Matt Reeves’ DC else-world The Batman Part II will open on Oct. 3, 2025.

Next week, cinema owners will get the first look of the highly anticipated Warner Bros/DC movie The Flash from director Andy Muschietti and starring Ezra Miller in the title role. Gunn has heralded the movie, “probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.”

Gunn is on a press tour for his Marvel Studios’ swan song, Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3 which is set to open to $130M stateside on May 5.

In a recent Rolling Stone interview, Gunn said, “I learned so much from making these [Guardians] movies…But it’s not like Superman is going to have exactly the same vibe as a Guardians movie. It’s actually quite different.”

it seems to me when he was hired by DC. It had to been:

DC: Ok what heroes you want to work with
Gunn: All of them

I mean he wants to finally do something with DC's most under rated hero Booster Gold

The Flash sounds like it will be a very good film.

The Batman was also a very good film.

I am hoping the next Superman film is also very good… even if it will be a bit of a wait.

I may be in the minority but, I really liked Shazam! Fury of the Gods. I watched the Shazam/Isis Hour back in the 70's and I recognized Michael Gray immediately and was totally surprised when he showed up. I laughed a lot and had a good time watching it.

I was pleasantly surprised with the Batman film....did feel a bit long though

I don't know about the Flash - I wasn't a fan of the actors version in prior outings....I'm not sure I can watch it - just based on the prior appearances of Flash - never mind the off screen issues

Supes will be interesting - Christopher Reeve was the version I grew up with and many of the films don't hold up but the Donner Cut is still one of the better Sups movies - I hope they can do it right and line up an actor that can hold the roll down for a decade or so for 3 or 4 solo films with maybe a team-up or two to boot!

I am really happy to hear that there won't be an origin in the first movie.

Regardless of the Miller situation, The Flash looks great right now. New trailer drops on the 25th.

Judging by Rotten Tomatoes you’re in the strong majority… it has a very good 86% RT audience score.

I wasn’t thrilled by the trailer. Will watch it on streaming with modest expectations.
