Would any of you buy a batman 181 with the centerfold missing. I mean if it was super cheap obviously but as in investment is it even worth it. I guess this applies to the first hob goblin and other books like it. Are incomplete books even worth buying.

I'm starting to feel that way. When I first started collecting i didn't really care. But now I see the difference and its hard to buy them. I feel like I'm better off getting less books at higher quality. Maybe that's how everyone moves in collecting.

Depends on how cheap. But in all honesty I wouldn't want it for my personal collection. Only to resell is my motive.

I’ve seen a few of the posters for sale, recently, so I might try. But the base book had better be cheap.

Incomplete books have a place in collecting and a market for selling. It depends on the book and what is incomplete.

First, the incomplete book would need to be some sort of key book. The more "key" it is, the better.

If the missing page does not impact art or story. This is a plus.

For Batman 181, I believe the centerfold is the pin up. This would mean missing art but no impact to the story.

This book is also known to have the missing pin up.

Batman 181 is a desirable key as it's the 1st Poison Ivy. This book still moves with the missing pin up.

To buy or not to buy all hinges on the price.

Yes if I wanted that comic In my collection I would. you mention hobgoblin asm 238 yeah I bought one without a tattoo it was cheaper to be honest vs one with a tattoo, but I also picked up a facsimile of it. So do I need the asm 238 without a tattoo. it’s just me collecting why should I care if it has a tattoo whom am I trying to impress I feel like it’s better to have a low grade than nothing at all because your holding out for the perfect copy to just fall in your lap at a cheap price it don’t happen often. Buy the low grade if your fine with it love it add it to your collection it’s just going to sit in a short box anyways. Then revisit the comic if you run across a better copy and want to up grade do it chances are the low grade that you bought the previous years might be worth more than what you got it for when it’s time to sell it if you get a upgrade copy. That’s the long haul of collecting. If you plan to be in the hobby for a long time you will start to look at comics as upgrades copy’s to the ones your already have. Or you might just be the type that wants to have two copy’s of a comic that’s fine two there ain’t no rules in comic collecting that you have to go by. The collector sets his own standards of rules for their own collection. Remember after you acquire your comics they will just sit in a short box and might get looked at every so often. Who’s haveing more fun the guy who has 4 super high grade comics or the guy who has 25 lower grade comics it’s all in how you like to collect. I think we all start out wanting the 25 lower grades you get more bang for your buck and your collection grows faster. Iam kind at the crossroads sometimes I get picky on condition and sometimes I just want to own the dam comic.

For this particular book I doubt I'd buy it. It's a book that's easy to find so I'd personally save a little more and hold out for a complete copy.

Given I have a graded 8.0, I would buy an incomplete copy just to have it IF it was in nice shape and a decent price.

In the future, if you find another beat up copy that has the centerfold, you can marry the two books and hopefully get a good slab grade if it isn't obvious it was married

You can never have enough Batman 181s, so if it presented well, YES, I would buy an incomplete copy (for the right price).

EbayMafia, GAC, Travis, and everyone has good points. I'm a reader first, and a collector 2nd, I've never sold a book. One time in the 70's I was in a neighborhood comic book club. I traded a book and regretted it. I've always read comics, so I'm a reader type of a collector. Since then, I buy for me, I'll let my kids sort them out, when I pass away. I tend to buy place holders, for books that I didn't get while I was I kid, if the price is right(Jack of Hearts fan). I got a good deal on an Incredible Hulk 214. When I spot a better copy, and the price is right, I'll drop the money on a better copy. More crap my kids will have to go through.🤣🤣🤣

If you want a really cheap one, DM me. I have a complete 0.5... I think it was graded incorrectly. I think it should have been a 1.0... Cover is split and detached but it's complete.

This is my copy I bought ten years ago for $50 Aus thats roughly $30US got it graded for free at the grading expo and at the time the book was under the economy $250.

With the way prices are I'd maybe get a copy without the pinup. Picking up minor cheap keys is my thing.

I do like high grade but when you run across incomplete restored books like Flash 105 for $50 I say why not. I can't buy a meal for 2 at a 3 star restaurant for that price in the northwest.
