OT: Any suggestions for selling electronics online?19269

I haven't aired it out. It's part of the provenance. Galen130 private msg quote post Address this user
Long story short...the last six years or so, I've been closing online accounts for various reasons, and for various types of accounts. I'm reducing my digital footprint, so I no longer have accounts like social media platforms, eBay, Amazon, CGC, etc.

I know there are sites out there for selling electronics, but I don't want to take a beating. I'm aware that eBay is a good place to sell devices, but I won't set up another account. I don't know where to try and sell old electronics online for similar prices...i.e. Apple products or old phones. Brick and mortar stores are a rip off too, especially if you want a cash sale.

I just want to pick peoples brains on where I can get the best bang-for-the-buck online, or anywhere else you can think of.

And no, I'm not trying to sell anything in these forums. That's a no-no!!! Lol

Thanks, all!!!

depends on what you are selling. Ive once sold a tv and a washer/dryer but was through my apartments digital bullintine board (was moving. didnt need tv and new place came with a washerdryer). no suggestions that will help you.

Have sold a psp (back when that mattered) off ebay.
take lots of pictures with every little detail you can think of. even if minor.

if you do a pick up and pay. somewhere public like a parking lot with stores

bigger it is. Like a tv. then best to do a pickup

I'm not sure how you're going to sell things online w/out opening an account for whatever platform you use ... unless you're going to go w/ places like Craigslist or local area classifieds. Even the other auction sites (municipal and city and salvage sites, etc.) require that you open an account.

There are sites that specify in used music gear, used home electronics and audiophile gear, etc. but all of them that I know you need an account.
Good luck, though.

@CaptainCanuck @dfoster43

Clarification—-The forums account is still there, just haven’t used it since last November. I didn’t renew my membership because I don’t sub anymore. I only use these forums now…no subbing. CGC is in my rear view mirror. 👍👍👍

@Galen130 I sell a lot of my used electronics on places like Craig’s list or Mercari.

I have found though, that you need to be willing to sell for less to attract buyers.

Electronics by their nature are often outdated in 6 months. Unless you have rare speakers or amplifiers then looking for top dollar is tough.

If you let me know what you are selling I might know of some other places to unload your gear.

If you don't want to create an account you're basically left with nailing signs to telephone poles.

Can't sell online without an account.

Funny enough, I've found Facebook Marketplace to be a fairly good place for selling stuff that's not super valuable. And their percentage cut is less than something like eBay.

Another option is to find a local auction/consignment house and just work with them.

Yeah I'd forgotten about Mercari, I've used them in the past.

I've got non-home electronics (Synthesizers, Amps, Mixing decks, Tape recorders, etc.) that have specific musician-marketplaces usually focused on to sell, and I can tell you it's more focused and less "broad" than using eBay or FB etc. ... so I guess it depends on what it is, too.

Audiogon for hifi.

Reverb for musical equipment.

I think I used Harmony Central too but that is years ago (and IIRC not as good for electronics).

Mass market items… going to be hard to get enough eyeballs in most other channels to attract enough demand for Ebay-level prices.

@Davethebrave thanks for the "Reverb" tip, I'm opening a sales account right now.

Reverb is good and has a pretty sizable audience. Not eBay size but still pretty big. They used to only take 10% too, last I checked. That may have changed but still probably cheaper than eBay.

Thanks, it's good to hear another endorsement.

I've got my account made and am listing my Roland Juno-106. It was used on Vanilla Ice's first two albums!

@Galen130If you have family members that still have some of those accounts, maybe they can help you out with some of those products and items, hopefully family doesn't want to much of the pie.😅

Excellent point.
I have plenty of accounts.

Galen, for a price, I can keep you off the grid.
