Question
What's more appealing?
Seeing a once great band that's now on its last leg?
or
Seeing a good and young cover band playing the same set as the washed up great band?
I'm torn
I saw Bon Jovi on the last tour and it was horrible.
I saw a Van Halen (Roth) cover band last summer and really enjoyed it.

Depends, Def Leppard and Iron Maiden are both very good in later years, however, I find that is not the case for most. For me personally, I like to remember them in there prime with a few exceptions.

@Rbolton same.
Saw Cheap Trick a few years ago and they looked old but sounded great.
I would rather pay half the money and see a Foreigner cover band than full price for OG Foreigner with only Mick Jones playing 3 songs and the rest is basically cover

Great question, and the answer usually depends on whether older/original performers still have the chops. If a group or performer is phoning it in or require back-ups to pull off a performance, it disrespects their audience and looks like a money-grab. In those instances it'd be better for everyone if they just packed it in and called it a day.

On rare occasions, musicians defy the odds for decades and can still hit the notes or play their instruments with conviction. Those instances are rare, but phenomenal when pulled off. Here's one jaw dropper that still confounds me, an off the cuff solo performance by Colin Blunstone with the Lemon Twigs from SXSW last year doing his lead vocal of "Care of Cell 44" from the Zombies album Odyssey and Oracle ('68)...
