I was wondering if anyone has been to Dixieland Flea Market in Michigan. I always wanted to go but heard mixed reviews. I was reading about it online and people said it was rundown and sketchy. If you live and the Metro Detroit area and have been let me know.

I've been there a couple times. Both times on a Friday night. It's dead on Fridays, they open at 4 I think. There are a bunch of dealers inside (it's pretty big), but few of them are open on Friday. There is a comic dealer in there. Has a lot of stuff. His slabs are priced from FMV to very high. He has an Oblivion Song #1 (pink sig) 9.8 for $275, lol. But some of the other stuff is reasonable. First time I went he was doing some anniversary sale, all books were basically half off (buy one get one free or something like that). I left with a dozen books or so. He has some boxes of $20 books, some $10, lots of $5, and of course $1 books. It's a decent set-up actually. As for the rest, I walked around it the first time I went just to get an idea what was there. It was summer so there were a bunch of dealers outside too. People who don't rent space inside and just show up. Anyway, not sure if there is anything else you wanted to know, but that's been my experience of the 2 times I've been. |

I was reading Google reviews and a lot of them said it was rundown. Did it seem sketchy and rundown?

It is worth a visit. I used to go there a lot and even set up outside in the summertime usually selling HVAC stuff. If @Sigur_Ros is referring to the same guy, he sells comic books and does chiropractor work there too. His prices are definitely high. There is a bit of an odor in there too. I laugh at their radio commercial hiping it up. My favorite line is "Some people come here just for the food" I would pass on the food. I must admit when we had really young children and not much money, we took our kids to see Santa Claus there one year. Check out Comic City while in the area. It is just a few miles south of there.

I see all my favorite YouTubers going to flea markets. The only one I know of is Dixieland and it doesn’t sound appealing from the picture you painted lol. Is Comic city the chain comic store? I have one near me.

There’s some truth to the “run down and sketchy” statement. They still have a lot of dealers and you will find some comic book sellers to be sure, but it is not what it was 30 years ago. I used to go there regularly for many many years and have many great memories of the place. The truth is that the area where it is located has gotten progressively worse as the years passed. I wouldn’t say it is in a bad neighborhood, but it is on the outer fringe of a very questionable area. It makes me a little sad because I am old enough to remember that Pontiac was actually a nice place to live in the 1970s. Even in the 80s and 90s there were still some decent areas. Nowadays, I am just glad that everyone I know and love has made it out of there. Also, if you do go, I second Brian’s suggestion that you avoid the food!

@cesidio I tend to skip larger cons. Door prices always seem insane. Also, books seem to be priced way above FMV.

Have you guys ever checked out the Knight of Columbus shows in Livonia? They also started one in Clawson Michigan. I have found some great deals at the Livonia show and it is only a 3-dollar door fee.

The Livonia show is great! I try to make it down there about once a year to load up on 50 cent and dollar box books. Always a good time and the folks down there are very nice.

@Thomas8683 Livonis is a great show. It is one of my favorites. I also agree that you can't beat a $3. Entrance fee. I had set up at the first 2 Clawson shows. I did pretty good. |
