Ebay search engine results19150

Collector MRmintastic private msg quote post Address this user
Today I was looking at comics on Ebay.
Tried typing in CBCS and related terms such as CBCS 9.6 etc.
When I click on a particular era such as Bronze age after the initial search, it alters the query in the search box back to CGC.
I may see the odd book graded by CBCS, but most of the results shown are CGC.
This is a bit frustrating since I like to segregate my searches.
It appears to be actually hindering me in finding CBCS graded books.

Anyone else experience this or something similar?

I tried that approach (searched "CBCS 9.6" and then filtered to see only Golden Age) and it worked fine for me.

It has been my experience that eBay searches are all over the place. They think they know better what you are looking for than you do.

I find it frustrating when I can't find books that I know I saw listed only a day or two before... sometimes even from search to search.

When I search CBCS (nothing else), it shows CGC items, and then a little caption:

Showing results for cgc. Search instead for cbcs

I then have to click on cbcs to get proper results.

I guess eBay thinks you spelled it incorrectly.

it is also possible that that there are no listings matching the filter criteria. If a listing is missing key details like “Bronze Age” then a general query will not work.

That doesn't happen to me. I've tried through the eBay mobile app as well as both eBay.com and eBay.ca. It just doesn't happen to me.

I'd like to say I still turned out alright, but that would be a lie. flanders private msg quote post Address this user
This happened to me a few months ago but it turned out to be an issue with my internet browser settings:

Thanks for sharing that. It just seemed odd, as I repeated the same process several times.

It’s happend to me like say if I want to type in hulk cbcs like to bring up all the hulk books listed that have cbcs in the item it just farts out hulk cgc but then underneath it there is a link to click to get to where I want to go. Like eBay is pushing cgc over cbcs

Ebay replaces search terms (then links to what you intend). The reason is likely as follows:

Spam keywords. CGC is a spammed term so the overwhelming majority of clicked-through searches (and ultimately purchases) of comics will have the CGC tag.

So the “smart” algorithm redirects to the higher-completion term (CGC)

It is machine learning’s response to search engine manipulation by sellers. CBCS sellers often adding “NOT CGC” in the listing title…

Zero to do with Ebay “pushing” anything.

It’s still an annoyance. A smarter algo would factor in an individual user’s clickthrough rates and override the generic code. From my experience this doesn’t happen.

some sellers are being slick by typing "NOT CGC" to get page views, or they add "cgc" somewhere in the description...

@Davethebrave not to mention using html code for the white text "CGC"...
