CBCS 15% Off Discount Code: CBCSVD19121

I'd like to say I still turned out alright, but that would be a lie. flanders private msg quote post Address this user
I know it's common for businesses to mark up prices before announcing black friday and other discounts, but it seems like a low blow from CBCS to mark up the grading costs shortly after this discount was announced. They seem to be making a lot of impulsive decisions rather than having a clear vision for the future.

They better be careful and not price themselves out of the market.

I just got an order of 13 books back. 9 had scratched or scuffed cases.

First time having an issue like this...

Hopefully this isn't prices going up and quality going down...

I've been having issues with scuffed cases lately, too. Send 'em back and tell 'em to fix it. If enough people do that, we won't get scuffed up cases anymore.

also seems like a decreased presence at least at my local conventions.
Handing off in person is most times more than a 15% discount when you work in the to CBCS shipping saved (assuming the convention ticket would be bought anyway i.e. sunk cost); which is why I will likely hold off on this promo - and if CBCS doesn't appear at one of the 4 'local' events then at least in August there are the 'other' guys

I was able to pick my books up from the Walgreen's yesterday after work. So, CBCS received the books from UPS on 2/14 and I got them back on 3/9. That's a very good turnaround IMO. These books (15 of them) were all vintage. I did not have them pressed, although I did pay the $5 per book to have them photographed and those are the pictures that I posted here. I really wish that CBCS would also photograph the back cover, even if it cost a little more to do so.

All in all, I was very happy with the grades. There are some defects on some of the books that would have pressed out but, since most of these are for my PC, I did not want them pressed. I've never been a fan of the flattened look that comes from pressing.

The first three books were bought raw in the past few years. I think these all appeared in the "New to your Collection" threads in the past. I never graded these myself but the grades that the dealers advertised when I bought them were all within 1/2 grade (or right on the mark) from how CBCS graded them so I'm okay with that.

I'm in the market for a copy of this next book in a higher grade (9.4 or higher) if anyone has one for sale or trade.

I really love the way the colors of this next cover look with the blue CBCS label.

The rest of these books I bought decades ago during the late 1980s or early 1990s.

I am considering putting the two Strange Tales issues up for sale or trade although I haven't decided yet. I had originally graded the #158 at 8.0 and the #159 at 8.5 so I graded them slightly lower than CBCS but we were pretty much in agreement.

I REALLY love the way the colors of all these next Swamp Thing books (especially #6 and #8) look with the blue CBCS label. Gorgeous.

I had one of the #10s graded as a 9.4 and the other as a 9.0 so CBCS and I split the difference.

I had one of the #9s graded at 9.4 and the other at 9.2. CBCS appears to have thought more of the 9.4 than I did. I completely missed a color-breaking crease in the center front cover of the 7.5 but it is there if you look closely enough.

I had the #8 graded at 9.4 so pretty close to what CBCS thought.

I had the #7 at a 9.4.

I had the #6 at 9.4 but I thought that it might grade higher. Obviously, it did.

I had the #4 at 9.4.

I had the #3 at 9.2.

I had the #1 at 9.4 so CBCS didn't quite think as much of this one as I did.

So, all in all, I was really happy with the results of this submission. The books were returned quickly and graded fairly. There were no large scuffs on the slabs or anything like that. I think I'm going to send in another batch while the 15% discount is still in effect.

And, BTW, I'm in the market for a Swamp Thing #2 in the same grade range as these books if anyone has one for sale or trade.

Thanks, @Byrdibyrd and @Sagii.

Yea I'm a big fan of DC Bronze Age horror. Great art, great characters, good to great stories... what's not to like?

And, @Byrdibyrd, as of today that Two-Fisted Tales is my favorite book in my collection. That may change tomorrow but I'm really partial to it right now.
