Great photo but your co-worker is just hinting at how fast he drinks rather than the density of the ice cubes.

Any density difference between “iceberg ice” cubes vs “regular” will be minimal.

Apparently.. icebergs make great ice-cubes for drinks because the ice is so sense and takes forever to melt. I have a coworker in our Newfoundland office who told me he can get three rum-and-cokes out of ONE ice-cube

True, the buoyancy would indicate that density is still less than water.

When I was much younger my family's nextdoor neighbor had a Baracuda. My brother took a ride in it with him once. He said it was like being in a rocketship.

According to my wife, when she licked an iceberg that washed to shore and it tasted fresh, and the ocean is salt water which makes things buoyant

Very true. Though the density difference between salt water and fresh is typically much less of a difference than between h2o as a liquid vs solid.

You can measure the relative density of something by considering its mass and volume of water it displaces. For anything less dense than water, it is even easier (you don’t need its mass) because you can determine this by measuring how much of it (by volume) is not submerged.

So, for an ice cube (or iceberg) you can find its density by proportion of ice that stays submerged. An ice cube is just over 90% the density of water and so a little over 90% will be submerged.

You’re right that salt water density plays a role too. But less so. But none of it really has anything to do with the ice from the iceberg being denser. You can tell that much by how it will still displace the same amount of that rum and coke as any other cube = same density.

1994 Harvey Annual Report issued to stockholders. It is an interesting time capsule of a pivotal point in the company’s history as they had moved completely out of comic book publishing and into movies and TV.

The most well-known fictional woodpecker is based on a real woodpecker, but not the one many people think it is. Cartoonist and animator Walter Lantz created his most famous character at the suggestion of his wife, Grace, after the two spent their honeymoon at a cabin in California where the peace and quiet was disturbed by an acorn woodpecker, the LA Times(Opens in a new window) reports. Walter was annoyed by the bird's incessant noise, and Grace suggested he let it serve as inspiration for a new animated character. Soon, Woody Woodpecker was born.

In the 1950s, animated shows featuring Woody Woodpecker were among the top-rated daytime television programs, according to the LA Times. Through the years, Woody was voiced by several actors, most famously Mel Blanc, the voice of Bugs Bunny and other Warner Bros. characters. After Blanc's tenure, the voice of Woody was done by none other than Grace Lantz herself. Her husband initially rebuffed the idea of Grace taking over voicing the character, but Grace snuck her own audition tape into a stack of others, and Walter picked her as the new voice without knowing it was his wife.
