Just show something cool: Part 519089

Suck it up, buttercup!! KatKomics private msg quote post Address this user
Ha!!!
Old compasses were toast...so I bought the same model only 40yrs newer...only I didn't have the original cover and they don't make the covers for this model anymore

Enter old school techniques...no idea how to create my own 3D print so I used an old compass as a plug..layed up some cloth and bingo bango...new cover. Everything released like it was supposed to..now a little clean up and to make a second cover!!!

@KatKomics I'd love to see some work in progress and final pictures when it's done!!! That looks like a great project to tackle!

lol...this is pretty much the final product - the new white fiber glass cover will now fit snug over the new compass on the boat - need to make a second one as I have two compasses - hard to do much more work in progress as my gloved hands will be covered in epoxy while laying epoxy soaked fiberglass pieces on top of the old compass - I can try though!!

Only clean up of this one is to knock down some bits that are not smooth both on the inside and outside of the cover - maybe glass on a strap to the cover to make it easier to get off?

Ok. I though you might be doing more to it, like a paint job or a way to secure it. As for taking pictures while making the cover, don't worry. I've done a bit of fiberglass work in my life so I'm familiar with how difficult that might be. LOL

sadly this basically just sits on the compass - so snug I need to maybe add a strap to help get it off! - white is the color for covers - helps reflect the suns damaging rays! I have different tint tubes to add color to the epoxy so should be good with no paint!
just a fun little project so my new compasses will maybe outlive me!!

This has been Homecoming Weekend at my high school. Last night all the classes held their “overnighters” to finish their class floats for this morning’s Homecoming Parade. I visited all the garages where the students, class advisors, parents, and volunteers were hard at work last night and handed out candy to anyone who wanted some.

This morning the Homecoming Parade was followed by an Alumni Breakfast in the HS cafeteria. And at 1 PM we hosted the Homecoming Football Game, which started with a Teacher Appreciation ceremony where senior players walked out onto to the field escorted by a teacher of their choosing.

The rain let up shortly after 8 AM this morning which allowed the float judging and parade to go as planned (okay, they delayed the start of the parade a bit, but no one really noticed). The football game stayed dry until just after halftime, when the Homecoming King and Queen were announced, then the skies open up. I went home to dry off, and will be leaving shortly to return to chaperone the Homecoming Dance.

Check out these floats that were built for the parade:

Freshman Class

Sophomore Class

Junior Class

Senior Class

Do any of the HS’s in your area still do this? It used to be fairly common in RI back in the 1960’s and 1970’s, but like most traditions, it seems to have gone the way of the rotary dial telephone.

Walt Simonson wanted to be a paleontologist...he may have even gotten a degree in it. The signature we are all familiar with is not his actual/regular signature. The signature we know is an intentional stylized brontosaurus.

That's so cool.

With an usher for a father you almost had no choice but to like things like movies and TV and comics. It's fitting that you followed in his footsteps in a way (both in the entertainment industry)... having a TV gig years later.

That’s so bizarre. I was on vacation in Cabo when a US military ship came to port. The protocols were quite the opposite of firing cannons. The Ship was turned so guns were pointed out to sea and I believe the flag was covered up while it was there.

Unfortunately a lot of these books don't have a perfect wrap.
A lot of white from the back cover showing in the spine.
The books range from 7.0-9.0 in grade with white pages.
I was lucky enough to go through 20 copies a few months ago to cherry pick this copy

Razor sharp corners and white pages.
The only defect being a crease that breaks color bottom of the spine.

There were other nice copies but I think those have already been sold online.
