Alan Moore has a knack for melding together complexity with clarity. And in the 80's he teamed with artists who could add a third dimension of storytelling. Not just illustrate his stories but add to them with visuals that went beyond what was being conveyed in the dialogue. I remember getting to the final pages of this book and getting goosebumps, realizing that this storyline was going to be epic. Even when I reread years later for the second and third time, I couldn't stop reading until I got to about issue #8 or #9:

Moore's Miracleman was exceptional. Wish I hadn't sold my set off

I really loved the Kingdom Come story line. Great artwork and a great story to match. Alex Ross and Mark Waid were great on those books.

So many to choose from. Tomorrow, I'll probably have a different opinion, but today I'll go with this one. I remember being moved when I read it.

I absolutely love Future Imperfect. I remember staring at the trophy room identifying everything. George at his best, great story by Peter. Even had to find Waldo in the crowd!

Never bought comics as a kid, but this is the first one that I bought as an adult. And yes, it was this exact book.

It is sort of a comic book. Back in the 60’s my dad bought the Doc Savage paper backs, they were great, and I was a voracious reader but then he got the Lancer Conan books, they were sublime. Conan stories by authors other than Howard did not quite cut the cheese the same for me. Then you add art to it!

"Best" and "favourite" are not the same thing.

Best would probably be Watchmen, Sandman, or Maus. I don't particularly enjoy any of those.

Favourite, for me, is going to be Excalibur. The original Claremont run, and then the far more recent Captain Britain and MI:13 series (which is just Excalibur by another name) are some of the most fun superhero books ever created.
