Do you store your books front to back or front to front? I’m upgrading all my books to new silver bags and boards and am looking to the forum on how you do it.

I store mine front to back. If SUGGEST you store them front to front. I've just never gone through mine and done that.

I do 2/bag front to back. Seems to allow better storage in a box from my experience

Front to back. This may sound silly but, It never occurred to me to go back to front.

I go front to back, so that I can look through the box more easily and I know which side the spines are on. Cuts down on accidental damage to unslabbed books.

@Bobashek - I use Mylites and Fullbacks by E. Gerber for my better books. They are more expensive, but are acid-free, never yellow, and never need to be replaced. And they make your books look great too. I have always stored books back-to-back and front-to-front. I have done this for over 40 years without issues. In fact, when I started collecting and backboards weren’t readily available, I would put two books in a bag, back-to-back. I have pulled several 9.8’s for unpressed books stored this way in long boxes for decades.

I bought this book in the mid to late 1970’s and stored it that way in a long box with the rest of my Avengers. I sent it in for grading and did not have it pressed.

I store mine edge-to-edge. Thankfully my neighbors are understanding and avoid them when mowing their lawns.

LOL!

You even had me there for a second. I read the first sentence and was thinking, 'You use them like wallpaper...?' Then I read the rest.

Well, if we're doing the way-back machine, I used to use a cut-up piece of cardboard and 2 produce bags. I'd bag the book separately so it didn't lay directly on the cardboard and then place them in the 2nd produce bag. Then as I got older, and could afford, I'd buy bags.

Holy cow....I did the same thing. Any cardboard I could find....shoe boxes were a favourite...I'd cut those up and use produce bags to bag and board my books, 40+ years ago. 🍻

I use Mylites for the more expensive books for sure. I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be holding onto my almost 9000 book collection but wanted to get them a fresh look in case MCS comes a knockin.

Mostly Front to Back so I can see them and in Mylites/Full backs.

Some boxes are Front to Front to maximize space. Alternating the spines keeps them even and fits a few more books without forcing any into the box and has actually reduced some and eliminated some stacking curls with even pressure on those books; in about a year and half under the current pressing TATs🤣

I’ve also been bagging the old boards and using them as filler/dividers. Keeps them out of landfills for now.

Front to back, with a few at the end flipped around so no comic is up against the handle area. And I only use short or magazine boxes because I cannot carry a full long box. 200+ short/mag to hold everything.

This is me, too. 100%. Including the ban on long boxes because my back is not up to that anymore.

I take old boards and use them as packaging material when I ship something out. They may not be good for bag-and-board comics anymore, but tape a few together and they sure can fill up the empty space in a Gemini mailer.

Yep, all shorts for me too. I use BCW comic drawers mostly with the BCW plastic bins for the more expensive books.

Currently- short boxes, Mylites, fullbacks, back to front. Mostly. I still have a thousand or so in poly bags and basic boards, and if I’m not sure I’ll keep the comic long-term, it tends to stay that way.

Of course, way back in my early 20s I was mostly buying books out of habit, and when I ran out of bags and boards I didn’t get more. Just stuck the comics naked in a long box or two and there they stayed for years. I’ve pulled a few 9.8s out of that stash. Half the reason for bags and boards at all is just to give us the feeling our books are protected.

Those look useful, but honestly, that task is what I use old clothes for. I cannot tell you how many pairs of hole-y bluejeans are stuffed into the ends of partially full boxes.

Learn from my mistakes with this cautionary tale.
Legal size file cabinets, while definitely being able to hold two rows of comics in each drawer, are not a great solution for someone living in an apartment.
I bought a four drawer file cabinet with the purpose to store books and while full, it must weight at least 800 pounds.
It works, but if you ever look into a file cabinet as an option, maybe stick with two drawer.
