Yessir it is one of those (#1)'s.

Ace Magazines went from Four Favorites #1-32 > Crime Must Pay the Penalty #33 (#1) > Four Teeners #34 (#1) > Dotty #35-40 > Glamorous Romances #41-90. They were chasing every comic book fad.

Ultra rare book.

I think $80 was a fair price for a GD/VG. I prob would have paid double that since I never see it for sale...

Yes, I just looked it up on ebay. Nice grab. When there is a book I want sometimes I'll pay whatever it takes to get. Looks like you might be able to press it and improve the square-ness of the book. As far as back I have removed some ink before, but not a large quantity.
It looks like a nice representation of that book. I'm not sure what mine would be worth. It really cleaned up nice once in pressed and cleaned it a bit. Ill try and track down book this weekend amd get you am updated pic.

Yeah, its a mystery. It reminds me of Xela's (Schomburg's) work on some other licensed characters like Captain Easy but I could be wrong.

Sweet. I grabbed this a while back. I was more interested in the "Lady in Red" but cool to know its a Schomberg!

Nice copy! Schomburg was definitely doing work for Standard in 1948/1949, as evidenced by the above "xela" signed cover on Captain Easy #13. So, I believe it is entirely possible that the Freckles and His Friends #8 is a Schomburg using his Xela style on a licensed character.

Looking at other Captain Easy from the same time period I think that #10 and #12 through #17 are his. #11 doesn't look right to be his work. I wouldn't be surprised if Freckles and his Friends #8 through #12 was his work. The hairstyle on the blonde girl looks exactly like the style he liked to put on his generic blonde heroines. That plus the general layouts and what I call the "Xela POP colors" pretty much convinces me its his work.
