Was at my mom's house today helping her out with some chores. She asked me to find something she thought was in a box in my old closet. Digging through them, I didn't find what she was after, but I did find this:  It's a catalog of original comic art for sale that I got in the mail sometime in the mid to late 1980s. I now actively hate my feathered-hair, parachute-pants-wearing younger self for not having bought any of it. The first half is almost all comic strips, though with some classic heavy hitters like Little Nemo, Dick Tracy, L'il Abner, Batman and a ton of Milton Caniff work. As for comic books? Superman pages by Curt Swan, GL pages by Gil Kane, Berni Wrightson pages from Swamp Thing. Barry Windsor Conan pages. Kirby pages from FF and JIM. Ditko pages from Thunder Agents and TOS. Jack Davis, Reed Crandall, Graham Engel pages from EC. Prices? Almost all between $100 and $500. About the most expensive thing in there is the original Reg Greenwood cover art for Sparkler Comics #1 from 1940. $2,000. Point me to a time machine and I'll empty my bank account... |
