@sborock With your experience, Id like to ask (im still learning). IS it acceptable (or taboo) to take original page inks and have it colored by a known colorist? Or is it taboo and should leave it untouched? thx

Personally I'd xerox and then have them color the xerox. Frame the both of them side by side. I don't like the idea of exposing risk to my art. But that is just an extremely newbie perspective.

From a financial perspective, you would almost certainly reduce the value of PUBLISHED original art by adding anything directly onto the art board. If you have a colorist color the page, you'd be adding a lot.

If this is commissioned art you can do whatever you like and may even increase the value. I've seen commissioned art and sketch covers where one artist did the pencils, another inked. I've not seen it taken a step further and then a colorist adds the color - but I bet it has been done. Typically commissioned art you pay the artist to work in the medium(s) you want. Any number will do watercolor, marker or paint as well as the normal pen and ink.

Sometimes collectors of published original art do want to add something. Older guys like myself for instance are less drawn to more modern art pages that don't have word balloons. So what is sometimes done is the word balloons are added to the art on a sheet of acetate placed in front of the art. It would seem like a colorist could do the same thing. Lay a sheet of clear acetate over the art and color it. Then frame both together

No, I wouldn't have that colored. It would adversely affect the value.

@multi007 Coloring OA that has been published, including posters, prints etc, you should leave alone. PLEASE! It will turn off about 85% of OA collectors and usually lower the value of your piece. And...that's a great piece you have! Congrats!

I want to give a big thanks to Clan McDonald for all they did to help with a recent exclusive I was a part of. They really stepped up to help to bring it to the finish line after it was dead and WhatNot initially saved it. Really good, solid people there who are great for the comic community!
