Milestone in my collecting18849

Collector PDGray private msg quote post Address this user
Ok, so I have been collecting since the 1970s. I didn't get serious into it until the boom of the late 80s and early 90s, then real life happened and I had to get out of the hobby.

I started back into collecting about 6-8 years ago.

These days, I don't really have a local comic shop, so I have ventured off into buying select books as I could find them. About a year and a half ago I stumbled onto this strange thing called "Pedigree" books. I bought a couple which had been freed from their case. I sent those off and got them regraded and recased - they retained their grades!

This started me down the journey of attempting to buy ONE book from each of the recognized pedigrees. It is tough, and pricey, but fun anyway.

The milestone I have hit is that I am at 25 pedigrees represented in my collection. This is not counting "File copies" I have picked up in that same time.

Always looking for others I may not have yet, but this is fun!!

For your entertainment I have books from -

Bethlehem
Boston (ADDED SINCE INITIAL POST)
Bowling Green
Circle 8
Crowley
Curator
Davis Crippen "D"
Edgar Church/Mile High
Eldon
Green River
Lost Valley
Mass Copy
Mile High II (ok, so not considered a Pedigree anymore - so ding me one if you like)
Northland
Nova Scotia
Oakland
Ohio
Promise
River City
Rockford
Rocky Mountain
Savannah
Twin Cities
Western Penn
White Mountain
Winnipeg

A few of these I have managed to pick up a couple from that pedigree, but this has been some of the most fun in my collecting history.

Absolutely LOVE IT!!! Thanks for sharing those!

That GAINES book!!! - Wow!!!

Value-wise you are probably a LOT deeper in it than I am - I am simply happy to have the books represented. I have a few that are the highest graded copies, but I have a few that are the lowest graded copies as well - per the census.

I actually have 21 "Gaines File Copy" books. I bought them between 2002-2004 when Heritage Auctions sold them. A majority of them are MAD Magazines, 2 Impact, 2 MD, 1 Panic and 1 Weird Science. I love EC books!

Congrats....
That's quite an accomplishment.

I once was big into the pedigree market and had acquired books from several of the aforementioned.
Currently only have a few from White Mountain & Western Penn.
My favorites were from the Boston Collection.
Spectre # 1 & Green Lantern # 40. and White Mountain Strange Tales # 107. Never should have sold them.
But life's priorities change from time to time.
Just happy to have any now-a-days...

There was a Big Apple book I was waiting on, but couldn't quite pull the trigger on before it sold. I hate I missed it. The others you listed are ones that I would love to add, and hope to do so one day.

I only have one pedigree book, a Savannah "Our Army at War." Bought it mostly because I collect war comics and wanted to see what the fuss was about when it came to pedigree books. It's a nice copy, but I kind of feel like CGC graded it a bit high.

Congrats.

One of my favorite pedigrees from the silver age are Bostons.

Especially when they are graded in first generation CGC cases 👍

Congrats!!
Did you get one already graded or a raw one?
If you ever get a raw one, make sure to get the small COA and make sure is is signed by Bechara.

When Bechara first brought that collection to the market, I was buying a bunch of them from him.
He would often come to Orlando to take his family to Disney, and he would bring a couple of short boxes of Boston's for me to cherry pick from.
It was great. But he often would forget to bring and or sign the COA. And without that, CGC would not put Boston Copy on the label.

The one I bought is already graded and has a blue label. Ideally, I would love to send it and get the gold - would LOVE to do that with all of my books, but I think that would cost a small fortune.

This will be my first Boston, so I am kind of stoked about it - but I get that way every time I get a new pedigree book. When I get it, I can post pics, but I am not sure what generation case it is. I assume it's a first gen with the blue label. I haven't compared the cases with the ones that they used originally. I have a Rockford that is in a really early generation case with the blue label. Is there a difference? I really don't know.

@PDGray

1st generation case, I like them as pressing wasn't a big thing when these books were graded. So a good chance they've never been pressed.

2nd generation

3rd generation

@Southerncross - excellent information. My Rockford is in the first generation. My incoming Boston is second as are most of my pedigrees. I do have some in the third and fourth as well.

Thank you!

PDG

P.S. - I LOVE that your Winnipeg has Dennis signature on it. Neither of my Winnipegs have his sig.

I sent my White Mountains & Western Penn books to CGC for the dark gold pedigree labels.
They look great.
