| @scratchtasia The only drawback is you can no longer buy permanent ad free words. I don't know how intrusive the ads are because I bought the ad free as soon as it was released. |

I'm on the very last non-local bullet train  out of Tōkyō headed for Ōsaka. I am lucky to be on it. I should get to my hotel around midnight  Tomorrow should be more pleasant than this. I'll meet up with my friend and we'll be starting the Ōsaka 13 Buddha Pilgrimage. We won't be finishing the pilgrimage on this trip, but we'll get a few of the first temples in. Let's see how far we get!  |

| I should explain what a 13 Buddha Pilgrimage is. It's a pilgrimage to 13 temples that represent the 13 kuyō services that are conducted to honour and pacify the spirit of someone who has passed away. These services are held at strictly set times after the person had passed, and each service also calls upon a specific icon. The first service is held one week after the person passes and the icon is Fudō. It's two weeks for the second service and the icon is Shaka. This progression goes on, and the interval gets longer. The 13th service is held ONE HUNDRED YEARS after the person passed. The reality is that people can't reasonably be expected to keep up with stuff like this, so a type of pilgrimage has | ||

Check out this Shintō torii gate in the middle of Shōen-ji temple's grounds. It's an example of the syncretic nature of Buddhism and Shintō in Japan. The gate is for the protective Inari shrine located to the left of the temple's Shaka Hall. Many temples have a protective shrine despite being decidedly Buddhist, and this temple displays it very prominently. |

| Today we'll be heading out to Nara (the place with all the deer) and we'll be looking at flowers. There's a flower temple (temple well known for displays of seasonal flowers) out there with five-coloured camellias and they're supposed to be in full bloom now. I may have some flower photos for y'all later today. | ||
