We can all piss and moan about CBCS TATs and (rightfully) the lack of CS communication. I have a few books to flip and was going to submit those to CGC, but i cant help wonder if CGC moderns are being more efficiently processed or if they are just being pushed through for the sake of keeping those TATs low. There’s not anything one can do about given grades unless there is an egregious oversight that the 3rd party is responsible for. Assuming CGCs volume of business is equal to CBCS what is the incentive to not push moderns through and take business from CBCS because their TATs are so much lower? | ||

I wonder so many things in this industry that my head would spin and fall off if I wrote down all of them. We should start a thread "Top 10 stupid ass things in the hobby" |

CGC has fast modern TAT. About 3 to 4 weeks. But vintage is not so fast. And grading is a crap shoot. |

Quote:Originally Posted by HulkSmash It could be they have found a weakness to capitalize on. CBCS had that chance during the Covid rush but clearly failed to do so. Relying on employees to take books home and check them in didn't make for quicker TATs, and also backfired enormously. I think grading moderns is a quick process. Probably taught to assume a book starts at 9.9 (or something) then start looking for reasons it's not. If a book has a lot going on with it then it gets slower. But I don't think CBCS grades them slower, I think they are just slower in all aspects of the business, beginning with the 2 months it takes to tell you your books arrived. |

Quote:Originally Posted by HulkSmash Never said they were slow. Today. I’d wager CGC is seeing a convergence of lower submissions and higher capacity. Modern book prices have dropped off a cliff, making it less economical to slab for many speculators/flippers. CGC built up more capacity but around a likely artificially high level of demand. They’ll probably have to cut staff over the next few months. CBCS is likely experiencing the same demand slowdown but perhaps capacity never caught up (intentional or not). TATs for CBCS will likely drop. CGC TATs could stabilize or rise as they reduce staff. |

I hope that Modern CGC cut staff does not look for work at CBCS. A large percentage of those folks need eye tests based on the pile of random numbers I've received (and no they're not all lower than expected. They're literally all over the freakin place) |
