By no means am I trying to dissuade. I can hold myself accountable with some pics. Accountability is lacking these days though.

I think @Bronte would possibly be overly critical of the grades out of an abundance of caution. Maybe a way around that would be to first open a "Grade My..." thread and get forum opinions of the grades. Then use that grade range for stated grade to determine pricing and open a sales thread.

I was being somewhat sarcastic. But there are some people on the forum who can't help hijacking a sales thread.

There are some sales threads that hijack the forum too. Sometimes the same thing.

I've seen those! I choose not to say anything because they have entertainment value. And this forum is not exactly overflowing with entertainment value.

Typically, I think guys will choose something that is symbolic...representative of how they perceive themselves or how they want others to perceive them.

This is how I got my watch auction notification today. Ironic.

D'oh, now @flanders has got me on MCS buying poorly cut mis-wrapped copies of Invaders Annual #1.

@EbayMafia I shouldn't have bid as high on this one (or maybe I got a great deal). There were other's available around the same grade with far better wraps and centering of the print. It's nice to have a copy though, but I need to pay closer attention to these things.

I could probably on Tuesday when I get back into the store.
A elderly gentleman has been coming in and dropping books off for consignment.
He bought them for about 12c each in the early 70s from a distributor.
He'd buy one copy up to five copies of a book. Even told me he bought up to forty to fifty copies of a book.
So these never hit the news stand racks.

Here is a quick pick of some other the books dropped off.

The Spidey 15 looks to be in good condition. There's 5 copies of Swamp Thing 3, two regular covers and three with the orange. Books were kept in cardboard boxes over the last 50 years. There's two copies of Green Lantern 87, he has three more copies at home.
Got a little horrified to hear that a few books when he looked at them were mis-wrapped so he thought they were bad and had just recently thu them out into the recycle bin.
I told him that they are still very valuable and being mis-wrapped during manufacturing doesn't change their value and it's all down to condition. So no throwing out any more books.
He isn't a collector he just bought them many years ago in the early 70s.
The books look to be a minimum 8.5- 9.4 as they sit in their present condition.

I recently had some comics graded at CBCS and they went directly to MCS for consignment. After processing by MCS one of them has the note: "Slab: Minor crack(s) front or back, under 1"

Would you try to have it sent back for reholder or just leave it as is?

Would they even reholder it because according to the MCS website
"Neither CGC nor CBCS guarantees that even brand new cases will arrive in perfect condition completely free of minor production flaws, including but not limited to: scuffs to the outer case or inner well, minor scratches, newton rings, and other minor flaws."

It's not a super expensive book so I don't really know how much that would affect the value.

@flanders, sorry, I wasn't meaning to criticize your copy. I was actually referring to the copies I found on the MCS site, they all seem to have bad wraps or bad cuts more or less. I did buy a couple though that MCS graded around 6.5.

I would leave them. MCS normally returns slabs which arrives from grading if MCS feels that they need to be reholdered

I didn't think you were. I was only pointing out how I overlooked a few things that I usually notice. It still seems like a great deal, especially with people paying far more for newly released variants with far lesser covers, both visually and historically.

I bought this comic book from Steve McNiven at a con. I know that he has been involved in some major comic book events like Marvel's "Civil War" (obviously). My question is this, does he, at least, seem to have the staying power of some of today's powerhouses, like McFarlane, Byrne, etc.? Bringing this post full circle, does his signature add significant (or any) value to this particular book?

Has anyone here watched any of Jim Comics videos on youtube?
He was very informative about characters and plots etc.. on new books.
He hasn't posted a video now for nearly 3 months.
Just curious if anyone has heard if he is alright or just done with posting videos???

My definition is pre-Internet - when someone would put together (usually alone, sometimes with one or two other lost souls) a self-published magazine devoted to his or her particular obsession. Sometimes printed on a copier, sometimes (particularly early on) run off on a mimeograph machine. Once upon a time, I had a big stack of D&D fanzines that had sort of migrated into my possession over the years. They tended to marked by shoddy grammar, atrocious spelling, hints at weird fetishes and passionate diatribes on subjects devoid of any intrinsic importance. The modern corollary is social media.

Thanks. It still seems awfully vague with the exception of “amateur” mentioned in both definitions. I think I’ll mentally note it as an “independent magazine”.

A fan produced magazine. For example, if your were a member of a certain fish aficionado organization, the monthly publication received by you in a plain brown wrapper would be a fanzine. Published by regular Joe's, not affiliated with a publishing house, expressly for like minded individuals, i.e. fans.
