I would do it. The artist is so closely associated with Spider-Man that I don't believe the absence of his involvement in that particular book would make a difference.

@DrWatson, that's the direction I was leaning, but I didn't have any experience in this particular situation. It will be a while before I send the next batch since I currently have five verified books coming back to me. It's expensive to verify and slab, even with a discount.

Anybody have experience with life alert or something similar? My father fell and took me down with him. But it made me realize if he falls in his room I'll never know.

Any suggestions appreciated

We never used life alert, but we did keep a baby monitor in whichever room my mother was occupying.

My first thought was baby monitor as well, but if he goes to bathroom or another room I won't know if he falls. Looking at different options but about 30$ a month fir monitoring fees if I get something similar to life alert. Life alert being much more expensive.

Not familiar first hand with Life Alert, but a more cost effective option might be for him to carry an inexpensive cell phone. Falling for people that can’t readily get upright is dangerous indeed.

@Bronte my mom has a service that costs $45 a month. The trick (if your dad is like my mom) will be to get him to actually have it on his person at all times. It immediately loses effectiveness if the person doesn't wear it.

@steveinthecity

My dad is not versed in technology and could not even do a flip phone. I tried but I had to settle for a landlines with push buttons.

@xkonk
I need to talk to him and see if he will wear it. I'm thinking the pendant is the best option. No way he is wearing a watch.

I've been looking around at the comics in my comic room and I'm going to reneg on my previous statement. I actually like the CBCS labels better than CGC's, especially the yellow labels and the CBCS logo within the slab instead of having an ugly sticker on the outside which is far inferior. Also, the same CBCS labels in the newer slabs look more appealing. I still wouldn't mind being able to vote on a design change, with a vote for the current label being an option.

Just when I was about to meet you halfway and admit that the CBCS label is a bit more drab than it needs to be. Not that I want to see them dedicating resources to changing it. There’s also some risk inherent in any significant change.

I'm actually extremely suprised that CGC continues with the sticker instead of stealing CBCS's logo idea. It's actually quite irritating. Why would they continue to have that stupid effing sticker and why don't more people complain about it?

Disclaimer: I started some new psychiatric meds recently so if my posts start to seem a bit wonky, try to take it easy on me.

There's a couple of phrases from my line of work that apply here. One is, Better the devil you know. The other is, You couldn't run them off with a shitty mop.

Got a CBCS slab in the mail the other day. I was pretty excited, because it was the first book from my own collection I had sent out for a signature and grading. My excitement pretty quickly turned to disappointment, though. The grade was lower than I expected - that is what it is, whatever. The really disheartening part is that the comic was a limited edition, signed by one of my childhood heroes, and I'm fairly certain the book was damaged during the encapsulation process. The book is higher in the slab than the books in the other two CBCS slabs I currently own, so that the top inner seal is going across the top of the book, and the top edge of the front cover is fairly well mangled. The grading notes absolutely do not reflect that type of damage. The book was submitted by a comic dealer that got the signature for me and submitted the book for grading. I sent it back the them, and the owner was going to send it to his CBCS sales rep. What's the likelihood that I'm going to get any kind of compensation for this book?

No pictures before submitting. But you'd think this type of damage would be mentioned in the notes...

If that would have happened during encapsulation, I would think it would just be sealed across the top of the book. It looks like to me that book received a severe blow during shipping that jammed the book up into the seal while pushing the cover down and mangling it.

For those of you who do use life alert type services. Ask your insurance provider if they have a plan. Dads has one for 20 bux a month on a landline.

Granted, he said he said no he won't wear a pendant =(

@flanders

I told him if it's for personal collection to use cbcs. If he plans on selling to use cgc

@Davethebrave

There are quite a few batman books but I dont recognize them as keys as readily as i would the marvel ones. That is a limitation of my own lack of exposure and skill.
The stack of books is like 30 books. I dont have patience to take pix of them all.

He has a ton of other books from what I understand, these are just the ones he thought had value. There could be a shit ton of other stuff, I don't know. He is a comic art guy first and foremost. These comics are just stuff he collected before he got into art.

@drmccoy74

Not saying the guy is loaded, but I don't think money is his drawback. I think time is his biggest obstacle. He is very busy. Personally I am suggesting he grades most of this stuff. You figure if anything it will help preserve tbe books and make it easier if he ever needs to sell them. His family has zero interest in comics.
