A 100% shipping increase seems a little expensive to me. The latest books I purchased from MCS (three in April) ran about $14.00 shipped USPS priority mail.

That's still cheap.

15 years ago when I was in Australia. Comic link had a blanket charge of $75 up to 3 books shipped international, no matter where it was shipped.
I won 3 books on purpose to use the up to 3 then never bid again as heritage and comic connect charged me exact international shipping.

About a third of the $75 charge.

But I'm not in Australia, mate.

Plus, I had 36 pounds of soap delivered yesterday by UPS and it was just over $26. Furthermore, FedEx just delivered a 24 pound scanner and it was shipped for free.

@DrWatson you're right. Just after the $75 shipping fee that was probably 20 years ago maybe not 15 I think any shipping under that price is a win.

But not if you're not used to it 👍

Why do people sometimes blackout certification numbers on photos of slabs?

Putting aside malicious intent like hiding something wrong with the book or being stolen. Just in general like posting a cool book on a forum.

@HulkSmash I remember other folks saying it was something about CGC registry hacking. People somehow claiming they had books they didn't have.

What exactly is that registry for? It can't just be for showcasing your books, can it? Afterall, there's rewards. I dunno, it just feels wrong ... like you're saying, "My books are better than yours". Maybe it's just fun for some people to 'outshine' other collectors? I dunno, I just never understood it.

I just paid for two auctions 5 minutes ago and the charge was $35. Total value of the shipment was about $500.

I did that one time about 7 years ago. It was my very first cgc slab sale on ebay and I had absolutely no clue. I mistakenly thought that # could also identify my personal info (name, address, phone #) that I gave CGC.

Unless they have several slabs being sold, they probably think the same thing.

It must fluctuate based on value. However, I didn't think that FedEx would insure comic books. I have my own insurance policy that covers book in transit.

I sold on eBay search makes me think around $200. If you wait three days you can see what a 6.5 goes for https://www.mycomicshop.com/search?ItemID=58783935

Hi all,

Question about Ms Marvel #1 1977 issue.

Am I correct is saying that ALL of these copies were newsstand copies?

I've checked eBay, MCS, and Comic Link and for the life of me, i cant find a single direct issue copy without the newsstand bar code...

I'm thinking that they printed all newsstand copies and mailed them to residences who had subscriptions. Not sure im right though.

Thanks

Direct Editions with the UPC or trade dress differing from the regular Newsstand copies began with May 1979 cover dates. I’m not including the Whitman/Western multi-pack copies that were distributed earlier in 1979(and earlier. Star Wars for example).

@steveinthecity How can you tell a newsstand edition of Ms Marvel #1 1977 from a direct edition ?

All upcs ive looked at are the same.

@multi007 I think what he means is that there wouldn't have been any direct comics in 1977, and if there were they were actually resold newsstands (https://blog.gocollect.com/newsstand-editions-vs-direct-comics-a-history/). But starting in 1979, you started seeing 'real' direct edition books with either a blank box or the UPC code struck out. If you search for Amazing Spider-Man 194 (first Black Cat, so plenty of listings on eBay), for example, you'll see UPC and UPC strike-out copies. That came out in the back half of 1979.

So if there are any 'direct' Ms. Marvel #1s, they are indistinguishable from a newsstand copy.

Hi, does anyone know the current rate Chris Claremont will be charging for raw signatures at next week's Comic Con Revolution?

I think last year he was charging $10 per raw but don't know if that's changed.

Thank you in advance!

@Buckets he charged $40 at last year's Florida Super Con.

Thanks but was that charge for CGC graded or raw? A jump from $10 to $40 is a huge increase.

I am looking to have some raw books signed and not have them graded.

@Buckets

I brought my own books, his table fee was $40 per book, $60 for autograph and remark.

Then I paid CGC directly for the grading

@multi007 Thanks, so it sounds like you were getting your books witnessed and graded by CGC.

I am only looking to have my books signed and not graded, so looking for ungraded signature fees.

@Buckets yes. But there wasn’t a witness fee. (although several artists do charge $20 more for a witnessed signature that's going to be graded).

I paid $40 for signature or $60 signature with remark, plus the CGC payment for grading, I think that was $25 or $30.

So about $90 per book remarked and graded
