Saw this on instagram. Kind of cool that there's no rush and it's valid until the end of March.

@Nearmint67 they aren't providing any more details on their page or bio. I'm assuming it's 15% off any grading submission of 5 books or more. It would be nice if CBCS was more thorough though and could clarify if it can be used for pressing and vsp as well, but in the past it's meant grading only. I'll post a comment and see if they respond.

Im sending in a few books for Barry Grossman - and ive seen they say his name is Barry Grossman or also known as "Ben Sean".

Im curious - does anyone know if he signs "Barry Grossman" or "Ben Sean"? Does it matter which?

thanks.

Not so much a question but a statement. Reorganizing books and re alphabetizing sucks, but you’ll be amazed by what you forgot about.

probably dumb question. But has cbcs changed their slabs?

got a graded comic during the holiday gift exchange and just got my submission in the mail. I noticed the two slabs are different. the newer one seems thinner with a more rougher edge

@power_struggle55 - Newest slabs have rounded edges, no clips (sonically welded together), and are much sturdier than previous versions.

**Grading / Storing Digest sized comics**

Good morning!

I have emailed CBCS trying to get an answer on multiple occasions and have yet to get one.

Does CBCS grade comic digests? I have some very nice Golden Comic Digests with pristine spines (including #7 with Scooby predating SD:way #1).

I do see in the census that there are a handful of digests that have been graded, but they are more modern. Yet I also see where the CBCS web site also says:

"COMICS WE GRADE
CBCS grades mainstream comic books that will fit into our holder. The maximum size is 7.625" x 10.5" and .24" thick.

There may be exceptions for comics that are unusually heavy, even though they may fit into the size parameters. These are determined on a case-by-case basis."

I thought perhaps someone here knows for certain.

If CBCS doesn't, do the other guys? Although, the other guys made 2 glaring grading mistakes on my last submission (took over 3 months for them to fix...how do you miss double covers on TWO different books?), so I am less than thrilled about sending anything more to them.

Otherwise does anyone have suggestions for the ideal care and storage of this size collectible?

Thanks!

Anyone see parallels to the high dollar, high census books like IH181 and GSX1 (among others)?

This was what I referred to back in 2021 when I said there was a bubble across collectibles. Some segments much worse than others, of course.

“ The initial stumble in prices also begat more inventory, Tian explained, as some sellers had financed their inventory with variable-rate loans that got increasingly expensive to handle as the Fed hiked rates.

For some, that meant accepting a lower price to liquidate their holdings, even if they were taking a loss
, Tian said. The additional inventory caused prices to slide further, and the cycle repeated.”

Didn’t want to derail Steve’s Comiclink thread (and this post isn’t specific to Comiclink at all) so will post a question here instead:

How often do we think bids that look ludicrous (like the UF4 9.8 bids) actually don’t close post-auction?

I am not a very frequent bidder at auction but have now been reached out to twice for books that were “sold” but high bidder failed to pay. I was either second highest or third highest bidder and the auctions ended around FMV.

To bid past a certain $ amount most sites require prescreening. There is legal recourse too but not always cost-effective…

Curious if others have experienced this as well.

Of all my ebay purchases I think its happened once maybe twice. But we are talking a few hundred to a few thousand dollar book max. I don't think I've bid more than 3000 on a book yet in my entire history. So definitely not big leagues like ultimate fallout.

Thanks, this has never happened to me on ebay (though I’ve seen a few books that looked “sold” get relisted and seller mention the buyer backed out).

I don't know the certain answer but I think it's unlikely. This issue often is the inner sleeve that the book goes into. They aren't custom made and they are made in bulk so they only make them for certain size books.

Have a question regarding grader notes. I had 2 books pressed at LCS then sent in for grading. Just wondering if having someone like CBCS or CGC press would bring grades up any? Any info greatly appreciated.

Those notes are their standard, catch-all, fall back notes when they don't really have any notes to posts.

I'm beginning to think they posts those ambiguous notes to goad submitters into another, albeit unproductive, round of CPR.

Without seeing the books, it's doubtful another press will make any difference.

" . " Davethebrave private msg quote post Address this user
Well, they were pressed already. Pressing exerts physical force to a relatively fragile material. Not without risk.

As an aside, I have a high grade copy of the same book (Batman 251). Likely a 9.6 but could be a harshly graded 9.4… I debated pressing but figure that I could always do that in the future. Would rather just keep the book as it existed (in near mint condition!) for decades.

Finally, every grade is imprecise. Is it a 9.2 that could be a 9.0 (just on the edge?) Or was it borderline 9.4? Grader notes can’t convey the overall presentation of the book and there could be multiple very small defects beyond the notes that would likely prevent it from ever getting a higher grade. Or not.

FYI. For those wondering if mycomicshop takes offers even if they don’t have “make offer “…

The answer is no. I sent an email with an offer and this was the response

“If the listing doesn't have Best Offer turned on for that book, its price can be considered firm at this time.”

Hope that helps

question for the group.

Im thinking about submitting a Perez CBCS slabbed book for Cate Blanchet and Vincent D'Onofrio signing.

The question is - CAN I submit for BOTH? or is it like CGC where "multiple signings" are not allowed and I'll need to get it back for one, before I resub for the 2nd?

still relatively new to grading process. considering last time I never was notified when they actually started to get graded (I only found out when hot press stage and email finally came when it was about to ship)

How long does it take from when 3 comic submission (2 normal new and asm365) to hit grading room to when its ready to ship?

got email update today saying they hit grading room. progress shows they are grading.
