Question on FedEx Delivery from CBCS18661

Collector KaptainKia private msg quote post Address this user
I have run into an issue with the "Other Guys" and my shipment of comics back from them to my residential address.

So I want to find out if I will run into the same issue when my shipment from CBCS is sent to me and would like to hear from anybody that may have experienced what I have.

To start off with I use my personal FedEx account when I submit comics to either grading companies. It is a FedEx RESIDENTIAL account since I do not have a business, a business license, or business address.

The sad story starts when I received and unexpected notice that I had a shipment on the way from the "Other Guys". It is set to be delivered during the weekday and is a "Signature Required" at delivery package.

The problem is that I have a new job and I am no longer able to be at home during the week until late in the evening...usually after 5pm to 6pm. So I needed options and immediately looked into having the package rerouted or held for pickup.

This is where I ran into problems. It seems that in order to "protect my collectibles" the "Other Guys" place restrictions on the packages they send back. The restrictions include NO REROUTING and NO HOLD FOR PICKUP. According to what I have read this CANNOT be changed once a package has been shipped (This info was posted by an Administrator on their Chat Board).

So I turned to FedEx to find out my options...and there are none. Once the restrictions are in place they cannot be changed unless by the shipper, and (according to the Administrator's post) this cannot be done.

I tried FedEx online with my account, online with the "Virtual Assistant", through my FedEx App, and through their Customer Service contact phone number.

** Quick side note -- FedEx's CS phone # is just a rehash of their online Virtual Assistant and I have found no way to talk to an actual person **

According to everything I tried through FedEx nothing can be done once the restrictions are placed by the sender. The package will be attempted to be delivered 3 times and then returned to the sender WITHOUT the standard hold time for pickup at a distribution center as they usually do. After it is returned I will supposedly get and email wanting further instructions for delivery. I hope that at this time I can have it delivered to my work address. I also wonder if I will be charged for shipping a second time. Time will tell...

Also, I did try to add my work address to my FedEx account as an alternate delivery address. However they will not allow a "Business" address to be added to a "Residential" account. And, as I stated above, I do not meet the necessary requirements for a "Business" account.

So at this point I am trying to take preemptive actions to avoid this happening with my upcoming CBCS shipments and am seeking advice from anyone that might have had a similar situation as mine...most specifically using their own FedEx account for shipping.

I have added my work address to my CBCS address book, but have NOT YET made it the "Default" address. I have concerns because on my CBCS account it would be my "Default PHYSICAL address" and not a "Default SHIPPING address". It has been my experience that when my physical address the bank has is different from the physical address on an online account that there may be issues flagged with payment authentication.

Normally I would first try reaching out to CBCS for advice, but since their "Customer Service" doesn't seem to respond I thought that I would ask here first.

Information that I am seeking is...

1) How many of you use a personal shipping account and have you had any issues while using it?

2) Does CBCS place these same restrictions as the "Other Guys" when shipping with someone's personal residential FedEx account?

3) If you do use a personal FedEx account, has anyone ever encountered a situation similar to mine where they needed to reroute the delivery from CBCS(and was it successful or not)?

4) Should I stop using my personal FedEx account just in case restrictions are placed on it (I save about 15% on shipping by using it)?

5) Should I make my work address my "Default" and chance having future payment troubles?

If I do change to my work address I will attempt follow up with contact with CBCS, but I am dubious as to if I will get an accurate or timely response.

Sorry for the sad, long-winded story but I would very much like to hear what the Forum has to say...especially if you use a personal FedEx residential account!

Thanks in advance!

I have a deep-seated dislike for FedEx but I'm forced to deal with them anyway. I have managed to re-route FedEx parcels that were headed to my residence on more than one occasion. It's a little convoluted and Very counter-intuitive, especially given that the delivery restrictions were placed there for 'security' purposes, but it has worked every time.

Here it is: Sign/Log OUT of your FedEx account. Go to your email. You will have received an email from 'FedEx Delivery Manager' with the FedEx tracking number. That tracking number is a link. Click on it and go to the FedEx website. Attempt to manage the delivery. As soon as you are asked to sign/log in, do NOT sign in to your account! Continue as a 'guest.' You will be asked to confirm the EXACT address the parcel was shipped to. Once you do that you can re-route the parcel. I have never tried to change the address, so I don't know if that would work, but I have always been able to 'hold at location' at a local FedEx Store.

I have no idea why I can do this as a 'guest' but not when I'm signed in to my own account, but this is what works, and each time I have done this, I've been successful in getting the parcel held at a FedEx store. Go figure.

@Byrdibyrd

Are the instances you described dealing with CBCS packages or the "Other Guys"? My current problem is with the "Other Guys" and not CBCS. But I am looking for info to possibly prevent it from happening with CBCS.

I get all my notifications thru SMS and not email so I can't attempt doing things exactly the way you described. I tried using my phone and by clicking the link in the SMS and it opens my app (I signed out of it and closed it before clicking the link) which does not allow changes without signing in. So I uninstalled the app and the link then opens ups my phone's browser to the FedEx page with the tracking info. Again I was unable to change anything as it prompts me to sign in. Finally tried my laptop. I signed out, closed the browser and tried to change it as a guest using a different browser and was still prompted to sign in before I could make changes.

I think this is an effect of the restrictions that the "Other Guys" put on the package. Even when I am signed in I cannot select anything but "Vacation Hold" or "Delivery Instructions". This message appears under those options...

"Due to shipper restrictions, additional delivery options are not available for this shipment. For more information please contact the shipper."

The "Vacation Hold" route wont work because FedEx wont allow any package pick ups during the dates it's active. And when you inactivate it just returns it to a delivery attempt the next business day and gives you no options to Hold for Pick Up. The "Delivery Instructions" are useless also as they are thing like Leave on Front Door, Back Door, Garage Door, etc. That won't work because I live in an apartment complex, and the Office has a policy to NOT accept packages at all...No Exceptions.

If your experience was with a CBCS package then that tells me that they probably do not put on such rigorous restrictions on their packages.

The FedEx trick may only work, for some reason, with the links embedded within an email and not SMS messages...OR...they blocked the ability to do it.

I am going to try and change my contact method from FedEx to email for future attempts at this method though. Maybe that is what it takes...

I appreciate your feedback. I wish that would have worked for me...

I have received FedEx from both CGC & CBCS, but right now I'm only getting FedEx from CBCS. I get UPS from CGC (The Other Guy) when they screw up and don't use USPS like I have specifically requested over & over again. Honestly, between the two carriers (FedEx/UPS) UPS is the easier one to deal with because I have a local UPS Store set as my preferred address and things usually get re-routed there automatically, but sometimes that gets messed up, too, and they wind up coming to my hose, which I don't want EVER.

I have no idea how I would deal with a FedEx parcel if I received my notification via text rather than the email with the imbedded link I use to request 'guest' access. Also, there may be a variety of differences between the way you & I receive parcels that makes the method I use successful for me but not for others. I think that's all a result of things being more complicated than is necessary.

Sorry it didn't work for you. For The Other Guy I usually have parcels sent directly to my P.O. Box, which is no hassle whatsoever, unless, like I mentioned above, they screw up and ship via UPS.

I haven't had the situation myself, but many people on the forum seem to use the 'hold' or 'pick up at other location' options with their CBCS deliveries. I don't think you should have the same problem.

I have/had packages from both CGC and CBCS this month, and the way CGC does it is different from the way CBCS does it. With CBCS, you can easily click "Manage Delivery" and select an alternate delivery method. With CGC, if you click "Manage Delivery" it says that due to the shipper's specifications, the delivery cannot be altered.

The good news, or bad news, depending on your perspective, is that the "signature required" package was left on my porch without anybody at home.

Oh, yeah. This happens all the time, and the real fun is they do it at my place even when I'm home! I've seen the driver run up to my door, drop off the parcel, and say 'UPS/FedEx' before running off, and this is for parcels that are supposed to 'signature required.' Dude doesn't even knock.
