Let's See All the Jack Kirby Signed Books18648

I don't believe this....and I know you don't care that I don't believe this. GAC private msg quote post Address this user
The Avengers 2 sales thread and Batman66 brought to light that there's a few King Kirby signed books in the forum.

It'd be nice to see them all in one place.

If anyone is open to selling or trading their book, please indicate in your post.

Here's mine:

Not for sale or trade.

(NFS) X-Men #3 (didn't know about the signature until I opened the book after having purchased it...):

The only Kirby autograph we ever had was in a raggedy old copy of Tales To Astonish 37 that was sadly sold long ago. I'd be tempted to trade one of my Stan Lee autographed books for a Kirby one if I could find the right circumstance.

3 classic signatures in my book. Not sure why one signature was included as he had no apparent affiliation with book. But I'll still take it....

CGC census has another signed 9.6, otherwise I think this is the highest graded signed copy.

Signed on the cover, which is not so typical for Kirby.

@Bronte - Kirby said that Jim Steranko was his inspiration for Mister Miracle. Steranko was an amateur magician, among other things, when he was younger.

Does this count? One of these days I might crack it out and see if it would pass.

@esaravo

Yes but sinnot is the outlying signature. Steranko was also an amateur escape artist so that influenced Mr miracle. But sinnot was mostly marvel stuff from my understanding.

@Bronte - Joe Sinnott was practically Jack Kirby’s personal inker at Marvel starting in the 1960’s. I would guess all three men were at the same convention, and probably even sitting fairly close to one other. So if you were going to get one of them to sign it, why not get all three?

I knew Steranko was an influence on Mr. Miracle/Scott Free but it was Sinnott I was researching to see if he worked on this book in any capacity and I can't find anything...still a cool signature to have!

FYI. Steranko was not the sole inspiration to Kirby for Mr. Miracle. The King felt his entire life that he was trying to escape something...at first it was the tenements of New York...then his "factory" job as an In-betweener for the Fleisher animation house...then later on with Marvel and DC. This feeling also inspired the birth of Mr. Miracle.

thanks GAC....I am unsure what to make of things sometimes. I have seen several copies of the early x men books, and FF 1 being signed, by so far mine is the only copy I have seen that is signed of hulk 1, although the CGC census says they do exist or at least a few do.makes me wonder just how rare it might be all in all....

Anecdotally....very rare in my opinion. That book (unsigned) is one of the hardest key silverage books to find period....add the King's signature and that adds another significant dimension of rarity.

Got this one and it’s signed twice by Kirby. Wish I had photos of the inside but I won it in an auction few years ago for next to nothing. Kept waiting for someone to snipe it but no one ever did.

Here are my JK sigs.

The 2 FF pages are photocopies of Stats that Mike Royer purchased (he can't recall from who) because one of them was signed by Kirby, and Mike had just started working for him. He asked JK to inscribe one of the other pages (there were stat copies of every page, including the letters page). Interesting how different his sig was before conventions became more common, and 3 years later his sig had already become a bit more refined.
I cracked open the Kamandi (@Pre_Coder) from a CBCS VSP so Mike could sign it.
I need to try to get a clearer pic of the color guide.

I hate how signatures can be on 1st page when you are grading. it ruins it for me. yeah slab says "signature on 1st page" and they provide an image in slab to show. but its not the same.

I love the signatures on the first page, its how they should be for the older key books at least, rather than deface a grail . Sadly though if you slab it you cant look at the signature anymore...much the point I deal with on my hullk 1....a nice Kirby signature on that first full page splash between the hulk
s feet make it just awesome, but if I slab it I wont be able to look at it anymore
