So in July 2022 Florida Supercon Miami had Chris Claremont. I was there at 10:03am. 1 person on line for Chris Claremont. During this entire experience, only 1 other person walked up. An hour later - he had 50 people on line. (perfect timing and an experience I'll never forget.) I got 5 Wolverine #1 signed. Top two were remarked.(one was signed twice - he forgot he signed it and did it again. The final grades - the top 2 books are remarked - came in 9.6 The other 3 earned 9.8s. Grading costs were standard - $325 was final total for all 5 books with shipping and witness fee included. ![]() Also, have a series of 3 videos I took of the entire experience. I'll a make separate post for each video. |

In one video, he saw that I was recording (it was rather obvious with a phone pointed at him after all). He said "you're taping this" after he realized he cursed. "Will not go on youtube". His assistant said "its fine" and he continued to talk to me with the camera recording. First video - he just realized it looked liked Wolverine has three nostrils. |

Second Video - I cringe watching him empty his market case on top of one of my books. Just had to grin and bear it. lol Note: He sees im recording, i tell him I wont put it up on youtube, but his assistant says its fine. So I continued to record. |

Third and final video - 2:52 watch the remark be made. Stopped at the end as the witness tapped me on the shoulder to get the books. Great experience. I did not hold up the line as there was none. An hour later though, there must have been 50 people on line waiting. I just had perfect timing and a personal experience I'll never forget. |

I met Chris Claremont in The Way Back When, and unfortunately he'd just been slapped with a lawsuit claiming that something someone said/showed him during a previous signing had later been plagiarised by Mr. Claremont. This meant he was pretty taciturn during the signing and cut off anyone who tried to talk with him or show him any story/art ideas. Considering the circumstances, I don't really blame him. I do wonder if his reputation for being an ass came from experiences like mine.

@multi007 I'd heard he was a nice guy at signings, which is why I wondered why he acted the way he did at the signing I attended back in the 80s. I asked around and that's how I found out about the lawsuit. Never found out how it was resolved, though. |

I have had both good and bad experiences with Claremont. He's definitely not my favourite creator to interact with, but his body of work demands respect. Glad your books came out well.

he was at heroes con this year. didnt get an autograph. knew he'd charge money plus didnt have anything of his. but I did buy a rogue poster from (and got it signed by) Michael Golden. My plan is next year (or any year he next comes) get him to sign it as well

Quote:Originally Posted by multi007 Nice books... I had the booth next to Claremont at a 2 day con in NJ back in 2015 ran by Rob Bruce (he was on Smith's Comic Book Men show and one of the very few guys who ran good comic shows in the area. Rob died last year, he was a Hell.of a nice guy, very smart about pop culture n comics. His partner took over his Asbury Park/East Coast Comic Con (13th Dimension) shows in around 2016 and they quickly ran them into the ground, I remember the same weekend the NYCC was being held at Javitts and every dealer I talked to said it was poorly attended and none of them seemed to have done well. My partner and I had a corner booth, we broke the tables up in half to make use of the bigger area Anyway...after Claremont packed up for the day and left, I had just started packing up and saw he left his ![]() I picked it up and packed it away with my stuff for the night, knowing he'd be back the next day The next morning, he arrived and e had realized his notebook was missing; he was visibly distraught. I than dug into my backpack, pulled it out and handed.it to him, and made a joke to the effect of he was lucky that I'm.a nice guy, I could have kept quiet and flipped it on eBay for big bucks. He chuxkled a bit, he had gotten a kick out of my quip and he thanked me. It's been years, I can't really remember what was in his notebook but I think it had some sketches, personal notes, etc....it looked more or less like a diary of sorts. Peter Bagge was at the other booth right next to me on.left, gave him 20 bucks out of respect for his work, to sign the interiors of a couple TPB's of his I had with me as box filler for my wall book box. Still have those books, actually. Oh yeah, I also got a laugh out of Bagge....I had a can of mined nuts with me and offered for one of guys who was rifling thru my boxes some by saying, jokingly obviously, something like: "Hey pal, you wanna eat my nuts?" I kind miss setting up at comic cons, tbh. ![]() ![]() |
