So I have a Star Wars #1 CGC graded 9.2 Not for my personal collection. Strictly for investment to flip in a few years… Do I keep as is? Or get it signed through CBCS by Howard Chaykin? Which will increase value? Thanks! |

Has it ever been pressed before? If not, I'd consider getting it signed and pressed. You could get a grade bump, but even if you didn't, it'd be signed by Chaykin, and his is a nice signature to have.

@multi007 I got Howard to sign my copy. Sitting on it until I get what I need out of it. Not in any hurry. I agree with @Byrdibyrd to crack it open, get it signed, and pressed then have it graded. There is a possibility of both grade bump & grade loss. Graders are not consistent. Last year I pressed 2 copies of Firestorm # 1 and grade screened for 9.6. Both were rejected. I did another quick press and resubmitted them with same grade screen 9.6, and both passed.... Like a box of chocolates so Forest's momma says... lol.... |

@multi007 - If for investment purposes, I would also have ASP'd and Press, as @Byrdibyrd said. Then, hold onto it til 2027 for the 50th year anniversary.

yeah press. those original comics are always hot. as long as star wars is a thing...those will. signings always help. get it signed, pressed and graded. 9.2 could become a 9.6 after pressing

Quote:Originally Posted by multi007 I'd leave it as is to maximize your ROI. If it has potential for a CPR to 9.6/9.8, than sub it baxk.to CGC for a CPR'd without adding a Chaykin sig......than again, CGC is typically undergrading books right now so a CPR now is an even bigger dice roll....same goes for CBCS regarding tighter grading. If not a 9.6/9.8 CPR candidate, I'd just out it up for sale at GPA high w/BO and wait til you get a price you'd be happy with. SW collectors don't really care about the Chaykins'sig on that book. They care for Stan Lee's and/or Hqmill, Ford etc sigs....IOW, Stan Lee and cast actors only. Hamill would be the actor I'd pick for a signing, only one AFAIK that's still alive and wouldn't charge what an actor like Harrison Ford would charge. Check GPA and GoCollecr, thank me afterwards ![]() |

@ComicHoarder it would have to go through CBCS for the Chaykin signature because CGC is not do Chaykin. I think I’m going to send it in for cpr and just signature. |

I have a SW #1 CGC 9.8 and have been too scared to crack it for sigs or anything. If it was lower grade with a chance at a grade bump I’d probably do it though. Looking to sell it eventually but now this thread has be thinking about waiting until 2027 lol

@LotsaSequel WOW, I'd be hesitant to send in a 9.8 Star Wars #1 for a signing, too! I'm trying to do more with sending books that have the potential for a grade bump rather than books that might drop in grade. |

That said, how confident are you it'll get a grade bump via CPR, and especially considering how most feedback wrt both companies indicates both CBCS and CGC are under grading books now. ...if you wanna post up a few pics, myself and others would post up our feedbacks on it. Tbh, with how tightly both CBCS and CGC are grading books right now, a book that would normally go from 9.2 to 9.6 with a CPR isn't likely to fetch a 9.6 now. With all the new hires, I don't expect grading to be where it should be for quite a while. Also, I think on average CGC graded slabs of SW 1's fetch a premium over CBCS graded SW 1 slabs, if you compare GPA to GoCollect for equivalent CGC and CBCS grades, you'll see what I'm referring to. |
