Hurricane Ian Update

Posted on 9/27/2022

The Certified Collectibles Group companies are prepared for weather challenges.

9/27/22 Update

CCG will close its Sarasota headquarters on Tuesday, September 27, in advance of Hurricane Ian. During this time, Customer Service phone lines will be closed, and email responses will be delayed.

All collectibles are secured.

CCG will reopen after the storm has passed and it is safe for employees to return to work. For further updates, please visit NGCcoin.com, PMGnotes.com, CGCcomics.com, CSGcards.com or any of the CCG company websites.

***

The Certified Collectibles Group® (CCG®) is monitoring Hurricane Ian and is well prepared for the challenges posed by the tropical weather.

The CCG companies are headquartered in Sarasota, Florida, in modern buildings that are built to withstand hurricanes. The offices are located about 9 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico (east of Interstate 75) and are not in a flood zone. The buildings also have large, secure vaults to protect collectibles that are monitored 24/7.

CCG has been operating in Florida for more than 20 years and has contingency plans for tropical weather. We will continue to monitor the storm and will offer updates on our websites.

CCG is the world's leading provider of authentication, grading, conservation and encapsulation services for collectibles. Its affiliates include Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®), Numismatic Conservation Services™ (NCS®), Paper Money Guaranty® (PMG®), Certified Guaranty Company® (CGC®) — including its CGC Trading Cards® division, Classic Collectible Services® (CCS®), Certified Sports Guaranty® (CSG®), Authenticated Stamp Guaranty® (ASG®) and Collectibles Authentication Guaranty® (CAG®).

I am in coastal SC, and expect heavy rain to start sometime Thursday afternoon. Probably just in time to mess up my drive home. I have been hit by three category 5 storms in my life, and I don't even bother to stock up on supplies unless it's a 3 or stronger anymore. Stay indoors and act intelligently, everyone.

Boarded up the windows on my comic room.
Generator, fuel & oil in hand.
Plenty of food, water, batteries & propane.

My daughter and little grandkids are in Sarasota.

I have seen 1st hand what these have done in parts of FL. Looks like a war zone with, after 2 or 3 days, (mostly) middle class and lower good people, so close to begging, were asking anyone for water, food, gas, candles, propane, heck even old school matches! Anything that might help them through hell.

I wish this on no one, but to be honest, I hope to hell it doesn't touch my kids and goes somewhere else. Just the dad in me......

@sborock Have you spoken with your daughter? Were she and your grandkids able to get out of the way?

@sborock Not that it helps but my thoughts are with them.

I live in Houston and I know what a helpless feeling it is waiting on one of these bastards to move past.

My Father-in-law and his wife live in Fort Myers, where 18ft storm surges are plausible.

Their house is 11 ft above sea level. They live in zone C. Zone B is literally across the street and was under Mandatory evacuation.

Someone told them they would stress more if they evacuate.

I can’t imagine how one could stress more when being dry and away from physical danger versus physically being under 7 feet of water.

So now it’s too late to evacuate. They’re going to be one of those people standing on their roofs waiting to be rescued…risking others lives.

And why? Staying at your home isn’t going to stop what’s inevitable. Now your whole family stresses.

They’re in a safe room, but I’m not sure safe rooms are capable of holding back 7 feet of water…

Nothing we can do but wait now.

🤦‍♂️

Irma would have impacted CGC. They're not at risk for flooding. Was all ready to bug out until the storm redirected yesterday. The movement of that cold front was very unlikely (around 5%). It punched through a rising warm front on the west generating the sloping system that redirected it. Went from possibility of 2 feet if water in my house to 0. Hope people south had enough time to leave.

Finally got the word at a little after 9 last night that we didn't need to be at work at 6 this morning, LOL. Our CEO is from Somerset in the UK, and this is his first hurricane. I can see the Atlantic on a clear day from the last bridge on my way to work.

I'm just inland from Charleston now, watching the rain come down.

Flooding state wide is HISTORIC!!!!!!!!!
I have lived in Orlando, Kissimmee, St. Cloud & Merritt Island since 1989.
Never seen flooding even remotely close to what we have here now.
It is surreal.
