| live in charlotte, nc. we are expected to get a lot of rain this weekend. Im not worried. we've been told we'd get hit by a hurricane and it be nothing by the time it does. this isnt really hitting us my grandma does live in florida but pretty north and far in. she said she isnt worried.at best will lose power but has a generator and well water |

| Finally got the word at a little after 9 last night that we didn't need to be at work at 6 this morning, LOL. Our CEO is from Somerset in the UK, and this is his first hurricane. I can see the Atlantic on a clear day from the last bridge on my way to work. I'm just inland from Charleston now, watching the rain come down. |

| Flooding state wide is HISTORIC!!!!!!!!! I have lived in Orlando, Kissimmee, St. Cloud & Merritt Island since 1989. Never seen flooding even remotely close to what we have here now. It is surreal. |

| I feel bad that that my good fortune meant utter devastation for others. 70 miles was the difference between the Tampa Bay area and the Charlotte Harbor area getting this storm. The surge would have been less in Tampa Bay due to orientation of the coast, but still devastating. So, a cold front (and associated low pressure) was descending from the north while a warm front was rising northward. All the forecasts showed the two causing a stall in the cold front and a westerly upward tilt. Instead, the west side of cold front pushed through the warm front (about 5% probability of this occurring) and dipped southward creating an extreme tilt in the systems upwards to the east. This also contributed to the slowing of the storm just prior to landfall. These things are becoming more and more difficult to predict accurately due to low probability occurrences and massive atmospheric instabilities becoming more common. Our hotel that we booked to evacuate (and cancelled Tuesday afternoon), got worse than our house did. 76 confirmed dead...that number likely to rise. |
