Post Weird/ridiculous comic sales you come across18433

Every once in a while we come across unusual ebay listings for comics items that confuse us

Two I just stumbled across from the same seller.

I saw the X-Men 1 first and had to wonder if maybe someone was scammed with it or trying to scam someone with it. The book is one of Marvel’s facsimile edition with the cover replaced, apparently to look more like the original

The Incredible Hulk 181 is a similar situation except the cover still has the new $3.99 price tag

On top of that, the seller has a starting bid of $200 and $160 respectively, which is ridiculous.

I had no way of knowing that 9.8 graded copies signed by Adam Hughes weren't what you were looking for. drchaos private msg quote post Address this user

I prefer the Gordon Gekko quite:

A fool and his money were lucky enough to get together in the first place.

There’s a CGC 1.5 JIM #83 Golden Record Reprint in the current Comic Connect auction that has a high bid of $1,550! You can buy a 9.4 copy of that reprint for less than that, and you might even get a 9.6 copy for that amount (especially if you consider that the Comic Connect copy has a 15% buyer’s premium).

@esaravo Fortunately there haven’t been any bids on the two I posted. I wonder if maybe they tried to pass them off as the originals, not expecting CGC to detect them, maybe? And now the seller’s stuck trying to enthusiastically sell something few, if anybody, would want.

Did the 9.6 have white pages though? Those double covers.

I knew there had to be a rational reason for the bump

I have a 9.6 listed on MCS for not much more than that. I'm wondering if maybe it has the record included and that's the difference?

Nope. I'm guessing it's in part because comicconnect doesn't say that it's a Golden Records except for in the description, and not even at the top of the description. If you search for Journey into Mystery 83, the GRs are in there with all the originals.

A collection of Action Comics #1-5! For $239k. #1 is signed. Oh I should mention #1 is a 90s reprint and all have varying restoration.

@PhilCoulson It’s a purple restored.

It’s definitely weird. I’m with @Puckster. Did someone actually try to touch it up or did something after the fact (an ink smear or stain?) get characterized as color touch?

Wow! Both of these have 1 bid, my guess is the same person. I can’t imagine whoever is bidding on these is fully clear on what’s for sale. Maybe people see “Coverless” and “facsimile edition” and think it’s the original book with a reprinted cover.

@Sigur_Ros Wait! Is that an actual collecting niche?

Did the seller take the opportunity to list it for $2002 to make it a super duper rare quadruple 2?
