Does BAS still authenticate Stan Lee signatures?18412

Collector earthprime private msg quote post Address this user
I had a Stan Lee signature returned as "Signature Unverifiable by BAS". Upon investigation, it seems that most grading companies have now stopped authenticating un-witnessed Stan Lee signatures since his passing. Does anyone have recent experience with an un-witnessed Stan Lee being verified??

It just means that one was “unverifiable”- I’ve had plenty verified by them- prolly about a 70% success rate… but 30% or so have been unverifiable. So 7 out of my last 10- passed.

You can also pay $10 and do a quick check- takes 24 to 48 hours… but can save you a lot of time and more money cost “unverified” for a submission in to them- (about $25 lost if not passing)- of course the quick check is not a full verification but it is a good indicator and has helped my success rate I think overall-

You also can check books on auction before you even buy them- I do that often as well-

If I do the quick check before-hand - do you know if BAS will honor the results if I then send in a comic for encapsulation?

@earthprime no the quick check is not full verification (but I would print it out and include with it - can’t hurt)- it is the same “Beckett” giving the quick check results that is doing the full verification later for CBCS-

Also if they CAN’T tell you “likely” verifiable or “unlikely” verifiable and it comes back “indeterminable” they will refund your $10

@radd76 is correct. While sending a signature in for verification by BAS will greatly enhance the likelihood that a signature will later be verified by CBCS (assuming BAS verified it), it's a quick check as opposed to a thorough examination by an expert.

Some signatures, notably Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, have a high rate of rejection. It's always a good idea to pay BAS the whopping $10 to get the best outcome possible.

I have three Stan signatures that I collected myself at shows in the 80's and 90's. BAS found them all unverifiable. Super frustrating but what can you do?

That's really too bad. I'm sorry your signatures - that you know are good - can't be verified. There are all kinds of reasons why that happens, though. Like if a person develops a tremor with age, has to switch hands because of a stroke or injury, or when someone else starts signing things for them on the sly (which is the case with some Kirby 'signatures').

Feel free to use my post as a checklist. multi007 private msg quote post Address this user
You can also send it in to PSA DNA, or James Spence Authentication in Ft Lauderdale.

They wont slab it but they can authenticate it.

I got a SS #3 with a Stan signature verified pretty recently. So they are definitely still doing it. But I have heard that it is one of the hardest signatures to verify now.
