How many signatures on cover is too many??18360

Feel free to use my post as a checklist. multi007 private msg quote post Address this user
I came across this auction, and i wondered.... How many signatures on a book is "too many" ??

Is it desirable to have as many as you can fit?

And finally - how about you post your multi-signed covers?

This one was done at C2E2 a couple years back. 36 signatures total.

I'm not generally a signature guy but I like the copy of TMNT #100 that you posted since there is plenty of room for all the sigs.

For me, I think that would be key... is there room? You can also read that as "Do the sigs detract from the artwork in any way? "

Really depends on the book. Star Wars/Trek books with the cast on the cover + signed = hell yea!

Just a regular comic book? After 3 sigs it becomes unruly and a mess. I stop at 3 - artist(s) - creator and maybe actor. After so many sigs it becomes such a money pit that you may never get ROI. If it's for your PC anything goes.

A book I own with multi sigs?

The skyline variants were pretty much made for that imo. I have one myself with 15 sigs so far and 1 remarque, will be adding another 16 or so sigs and another remarque next month to it. I kept it raw because it's a display piece for me, a reminder of all of the fun people I met, and I have a list of who signed it and the dates and locations they signed it.

I have this one that I’ve been holding off getting graded due to the costs.

The 36x sig book was more of a “can I do this” kind of thing for PC. And was partially due to restriction of how many books I was able to bring and so forth. I tend to do these more or have them sign just a few people involved.

I specifically picked a sketch cover to get these a while back.

That's my current work in progress, so far plenty of room on the front for more sigs - although saviuk will be adding a remarque which will take a good bit of room in the bottom left corner.

There are a few different factors. For me, the signatures must be penned by those who worked on the book. So, Stan Lee's sig on Civil War #1 is a deal-breaker, no matter how many (other) sigs are on it. Another big one is if the sigs detract from the art. I've seen Infinity Gauntlet books with 4 sigs and the covers still looked great to me.

I would say that more than 3 is likely too much, but there are some books that can get away with it. I doubt that I would ever be interested in a book that has more than 5 signatures.

Same. Also they need to be witnesses as might too much for cbcs to authenticate

I think you can have as many signatures as you want on a book. Want to cover the books in signatures? Go right ahead! It's your book and your decision. Just understand that if you ever want to sell the book the size of the customer base may be in inverse proportion to the number of signatures on the book.

I would totally show off my Last Ronin #1 with 7 signatures on it, but I had to send it back to CGC (front and back of case covered in little spots), and they haven't sent it back yet!

One sig is too many, IMO.

Although back in 2112 I did snag an ASM-129 at my LCS with a Lee sig which I thought was very attractive.

Like all things, it's what appeals to you. I'm of the opinion that a signature should respect the artwork, not deface it. Others will disagree.

@DrWatson in 99.99999% I agree. If I could do my monster sig book again, I would have done it with the blank. My LCS had an employee purchase them all prior to the store opening. And I couldn't find one locally. I have been lately, having the books signed on the back of the book if it is clean and has proper space. And on the cover if it can do so without distracting from the art. But in some rare cases, even the signer will just sign wherever despite what you say.

Example, had a Radiant Black I had arranged to have a commission done on. On my way over to the artist, I stopped over to K. Higgins and had him sign it. He offered to use his new "UV" signature which I was indifferent about but he was all excited. Asked if he could sign up at the top due to my plan to have the artist do a sketch. He proceeded to sign as big as he could over the entire cover and doodled the logo.

So... yeah. lol

Oooh, yeah. Had experience with that, too. Specifically asked for a couple of creators to sign the back of a book (it was a variant, so the back cover was a clean slate, perfect for signatures) and the book was in a window bag with the opening at the back. How does it come back to me? Back cover still clean and signatures on the front. Thanks, guys!

This is the most I've got on a single book, I usually don't do more than one unless I'm getting a writer/artist team

I love to get the convention programs signed by the talent at said event. Every time I attend a con I get a program and walk around the show floor getting as many signatures as humanly possible! In 2016 I attended Baltimore Comic-Con were I was able to get the conventions program signed by a lot of talent and slabbed by CBCS.

Then in 2019 a friend of mine attended Baltimore and got me a copy of the Yearbook with several signatures. This one is raw but I love it!
