Not sure if I missed it or they didn't explain it but is there a reason why the enslaved elves have not been looked for by the elves? I supposed maybe they have been but not shown. With that many missing elves you'd think a search party would have happened or would be underway. really enjoying it so far. |

The last figure shown in the episode appears to be wearing a gauntlet just like Sauron....I suppose there would be many gauntlets that are the same or similar. Looked it up....someone named Adar. |

Makes sense, and the affinity the guy from the sky is showing towards the hobbits has me leaning pretty heavy on the idea that it is Gandalf.

Meteor/sky man I think is Saruman. Halbrand I think might be Sauron. |

I don't think Halbrand is Sauron. He would have to work his way over to the Elrond-Durin-Celebrimbor story line building the forge to make the rings instead of provoking Númenoreans and trying to get to the Southlands aka Modor. Just my thoughts as anything could happen.

Considering the ring was lost for over 1000 years after it was cut from Sauron's hand, I'd say Smeagol showing up is a real possibility. No more out of the timeline than anything else they've done so far.

@SteveRicketts If the wizard in the fireball is Gandalf, then maybe it's future Gandalf sent back in time to try and ward off Sauron before he has a chance to invade Middle Earth leading to a dystopian future much like the Days of Future Past story line.

I really enjoyed episode 4 today!!! Shout out to @DrWatson ... great call on Adar!!! Quote: Originally Posted by DrWatson I'm enjoying how all the pieces are coming together slowly. I haven't watched it yet. When you say "falling guy" do you mean the Stranger? I don't think he's Sauron because Sauron was already on Middle Earth. There wasn't any need for him to fall like a meteor out of the sky. Just a thought. I do agree with the herald idead as he is heralding the active return of Sauron by his arrival. |

I'm thinking that Adar played a part in creating the Orcs and that's why they call him father.

Adar looks to have had one too many up close and personal conversations with Sauron. And yes, according to the Silmarillion the orcs are perversions of the elves initially captured and twisted by Melkor (Morgoth).

Finally got to watch this. First episode was slow, but they're obviously trying to take there time and carefully introduce the central characters around which the events will take shape. I was wondering if Adar becomes the mouth of Sauron (Adar). Yes, the mouth is described as a man. He could also be loosely based on Maeglin (who should be dead). Basically all the elves taken prisoner by Morgoth were believed to be potentially corrupted and not welcomed back by their people when they were released or escaped. Maeglin was the only one I'm aware of from lore with a name and has a connection to Beleriand (the place they make a point in saying Arondir was from and the burned elf is familiar with). The fireball dude has to be Maia. They're going out of their way to show him use abilities similar to those demonstrated by Gandalf. But he could be Saroman (who was corrupted by envy and power potentially via the plantiri, but this wasn't evident until the end of the third age). He was also considered the "first" of the Maia to arrive in middle earth (though in lore they arrived via ship together). However, Saroman would not fit the pieces of personality already displayed. Gandalf had fire abilities (as did many of the Maiar who joined Sauron), could befriend animals; particularly flying ones. And was commonly seen as being able to impose his will in a way that made him seem to grow and be dominant. If it's not Gandalf, they've already gone to far to draw parallels that would make presenting that character as anyone else foolish. Since we've got Durin digging deep in Moria, it's likely a Balrog is incoming, but this should be something that would be near the end of the series. After the rings of power and the friendship between the elves and dwarves of the mountain. In my opinion we haven't seen Sauron yet, though we know he was manipulating Celebrimbor to forge the rings of power; he appeared typically as an elf in "fair disguise" named Annatar. He wouldn't have been much use if he was just chilling evil all the time. Of course this is all speculation based on lore that doesn't have to be utilized for the show, there are already several non-canon characters taking front stage. I like the series so far, the 4th episode is the best. |
