It's a floating knife; just like the little paper boat she made. Even her stones float

I'm OK with this. Please just don't let it be a wizard.

I'm betting it's Sauron. When they panned back from the crater, it looked like an eye with him in the middle of it. Plus, if evil was always ugly, it would be easy to spot.

Overall, it's okay. A C+ story stretched over A+ scenery.

Okay the man who fell to earth probably is a wizard and the kid with sword becomes a vessel for Sauron or one of his lieutenants. Late night ramblings.

Sauron was described as being beautiful when he first came to Middle Earth.

Looks like it's time to reread The Silmarillion to see how far off they get. And yes, the meteor guy is probably either Saruman or Gandalf.

The series is supposed to be based in the second age, which is when Sauron comes to Middle Earth. Wizards don't show up until the third age. The third age begins after Isildur cuts the ring of power off the hand of Sauron.

Ricketts may be disappointed. If it isn't Sauron, then I bet it is Saruman. I haven't read the books. The animated version on TV gave me nightmares when I was little.

After looking up Saruman on Wikipedia, it says he is leader of the Istari, wizards sent to Middle-earth in human form by the godlike Valar to challenge Sauron, it very well could be him.

I could see them exploring his back story as opposed to the more familiar Gandolf.

The Istari are Maiar (angelic beings that helped the elves shape the world) who were sent to Middle Earth in human form. They don't show up until the third age.

Well...unless you paid a half billion for the rights to the story. Then you say screw the timeline and do what you want. ๐Ÿ˜†

Do you really think they would write this show and NOT have a wizard in it somewhere?

I'm thinking Sadoc Burrows the Harfoot could be a wizard, or at least a magician.

We already know they're timeline compressing. So, who knows.

Read a review or two online that mentioned the mystery man could be a balrog. I still think the best bet is Saruman.

@DrWatson I agree. I read a bit of the lore just out of curiosity, and I think it's a wizard, either Saruman or Gandalf. Definitely goes against the history established by Tolkien, but I suspect it's difficult for the creators of the series not to include a wizard. That's my guess, anyway. I'm interested to see where it goes.

@lawguy1977 I also read that it could be one of the lesser known wizards, but I would think they'd want name brand recognition.

@DrWatson Yeah, I agree. No one knows about the blue wizards (including myself until the show premiered). I did read online that another theory is that it could be Tilion, the Man in the Moon. Couldn't find much about that, though.

Good luck but a wasted effort. The series is not based off the Silmarillion since they donโ€™t have rights to those materials.

So they will definitely be โ€œoffโ€ - intentionally to avoid lawsuitโ€ฆ

Slow in spots. More enjoyable than the previous two. I hope they don't draw out the identity of the stranger too long. Sometimes a fire that smolders just burns out.

I watched it this afternoon. I have to say that this is pretty much spot on to how I feel about it. I'm really enjoying the closer look at the orcs though. I'm looking forward to seeing "Adar".

Not sure if I missed it or they didn't explain it but is there a reason why the enslaved elves have not been looked for by the elves? I supposed maybe they have been but not shown. With that many missing elves you'd think a search party would have happened or would be underway.

really enjoying it so far.

The last figure shown in the episode appears to be wearing a gauntlet just like Sauron....I suppose there would be many gauntlets that are the same or similar.

Looked it up....someone named Adar.

Makes sense, and the affinity the guy from the sky is showing towards the hobbits has me leaning pretty heavy on the idea that it is Gandalf.
