@Jesse_O’s Vikings looked good today. As much as has been made over the Packers WR position, it looked to me like the bigger problem is offensive line play. I am not sure what the window is for their starters to return from their various injuries, but they obviously need to address the situation immediately before their season starts to circle the drain. Once again, the Lions disappoint. Really, this game was not too far from what I expected to see, although I did expect them to win the game. The offense was productive and the defense showed they still have some questions to be answered. I actually liked the defensive scheme. They kept the pressure on Jalen Hurts all game long. They just repeatedly failed to bring him down in the backfield. I think the blame for this loss falls squarely on coach Dan Campbell and his reckless style of game management. His calling timeout at the end of the first half when Philly had a 2nd and 14 coming up gave them an extra time out in a situation where they would have been content to run out the clock. They converted a big play on 2nd and 14 and then used their remaining timeouts to go down and kick a field goal before the half. Those three points turned out to be the margin of victory. Then there was a foolish decision to try and onside kick when the Lions had fought their way back into the game. This put the struggling defense on a short field and ultimately led to a Philly touchdown. While I still expect the Lions to win some games this year and be competitive every week, I am concerned that Campbell doesn’t seem to be learning the difference between recklessness and sensible risk taking. I didn’t see the 49ers game, and I know there was serious weather going on, but the result did absolutely nothing to assuage the serious doubts I have about Trey Lance being a viable NFL quarterback. They say the job is his and there is no leash. But losing to the Bears?!? We will see what they say if/ when they hit 0-3, 0-4, etc. Quite a few upsets this week. I will admit that I seriously considered taking the Steelers (I would have had it been at Pittsburgh), but I SURE didn’t see the Giants getting a win against Tennessee! Or the Colts being lucky to pull out a tie against the Texans. Oh, and Dallas looked just AWFUL! Overall, an entertaining week one so far, with some unexpected results. Bring on Monday night! |

Looks like Dak is going to miss significant time with a hand injury. I imagine the Cowboys’ first call will probably go to the 49ers, but do they REALLY want to let go of Jimmy G after their own week 1 performance? After only one week it seems very possible, even likely, that both of these teams could miss the playoffs?!? 🤭

Did anyone else think QB play was pretty poor in the first week? Mahomes crushed it, Herbert had a strong game, but basically everyone else seemed middling at best. Allen played well, but 2 picks? Cousins and Winston had decent stats, but there were some questionable plays in there.... I could be completely off, but QB play looked weak.

@etapi65 My man Carr turned the ball over 3 times in a 5 point loss. If he didn't do that, raiders could have won. Coulda - Woulda - Shoulda.... He better tighten up if they're going to have any chance in the Hot - West division... |

@etapi65 Allen was awesome in his game. One pick was the WR fault where the ball bounced off his hands. The other was a terrific play by the DB that you can live with. They never punted the whole game. |

@michaelekrupp I think Jimmy G would be an upgrade over DAK to begin with.

@PhilCoulson Agreed! Bringing in Jimmy G would mean an immediate quarterback controversy. Also agree with you on Josh Allen’s performance in the opener. He balled out!

I just now found out Dwayne Haskins was dead... (CNN) Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins had a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit when he was fatally struck by a dump truck on a South Florida highway in April, according to a report from the Broward County Medical Examiner's Office obtained by affiliate WSVN and shared with CNN. Haskins, 24, was trying to cross the westbound lanes of Interstate 595, near the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, on the morning of April 9 when he was fatally hit, CNN previously reported. The Florida Highway Patrol told the medical examiner that Haskins ran out of gas on the side of I-595 and left his vehicle on foot around 6:15 a.m. to look for gas, the report says. Around 6:30 a.m., witnesses began calling 911 to report a pedestrian walking in the lanes of traffic, the report says. The dump truck driver told authorities he was driving along in the dark when Haskins appeared in the center lane of the highway and the driver hit him. According to the report, Haskins' blood alcohol level was 0.20 at the time of his death, which is 2.5 times Florida's legal limit of .08. His cause of death was determined to be multiple blunt force injuries, the report says. |
